This reminds me of the day I realized I had become just like my father.
Our first Christmas in this house, I suggested we go to my parent's property and cut down a tree. So we bundled up our two year old, I grabbed my .22 (in case we ran into a rabbit or grouse)and my axe and off we went. After an hour or so in the woods, we agreed on a tree and with one swift blow from my axe, I chopped down the mighty fir. After we got it home and on the tree stand, we both realized it was the ugliest Charlie Brown looking tree we'd ever seen. She told me to throw it out and go buy a "real tree". Ha! I told her to leave the tree alone, I'll be right back. I came back an hour later with an armfull of fir boughs, drilled a bunch of holes in the tree and stuck the branches in the holes. Voila! Then it dawned on me. This is exactly the kind of shit my dad used to do!
Every year, we'd get a tree off that property, every year my mom would complain about it, and every time, my dad would fix it. Twenty years later and I had done the exact same thing without even realizing what I was doing.

We always cut our own out of the woods, not a Nazi concentration camp tree farm.

We cut one down from our back yard every year. My dad planted 1.5 acres of spruce trees 15 years ago. He keeps them all trimmed and sprayed...they look better than most $100 trees from the tree farms.

It will be a cold day in hell when I don't cut down a living tree to celebrate the birth of Santa Claus

I don't believe you. You are too cheap to buy a tree, fake or real.

That's a good way to end up with poison ivy in a bad place.

Having been (in my past life in California) a logger and a Christmas Tree harvester (wholesale and retail) I am a 100% genuine made in China plastic, pre lit fake Christmas tree kind of guy

.
If I can't have a good Red Fir (silvertip) fuck it. I would rather have plastic than some second rate pos from a tree farm or some Charlie Brown stick with lights. Best trees I've ever harvested came from around Lake Tahoe and Bucks Lake in Plumas County.
Now, that said, our fake tree has been in the attic for the past two years and probably going to stay there this year too.
Around here they even decorate palm trees for Christmas.

I'm too cheap to buy one and there's no forest service anywhere within 250 miles for me to go cut one on. Might have to take a drive through town late at night during the shitstorm we are getting and find me a charlie brown tree.

We got ours in February, about 8 years ago, clearanced for $39. It was $139. So that means it's cost a little less than $5 a year, so far.
I saved $100, and the average tree around here is about $30. That's a $25 a year savings, times 8 years is $200 in my pocket. Plus the original hundo is $300. And I can buy an awful lot of cheddarwurst for 300 bones.

No, actually I won't be. Someone, somewhere forgot my name while making the schedule and I have Christmas off. Actually, I have a whole 5 days off, so I'm flying back to KC. I got big, big plans for this Christmas break.
