Anyone use Ebay?

Postby ManlyMan » Tue Dec 03, 2013 12:45 am

Well I hadn't really ever used it. I know some people swear by it, but I'd just never really gotten into it. With amazon prime, you can usually find all the same stuff for just about as cheap with free two day shipping and you don't have to deal with individual sellers, but whatever, different strokes for different folks.

Anyway, I'm talking to the lady and she's mentioning all this old shit she has that isn't in style anymore and is going unused in a closet, I say, well, what if we sell it? She says fine, we can use the profits as a "our" fun money. (Im learning that "our" implies not fun activities for da manlyman)

So I go and sell a bunch of stuff on there.

That SHIT IS PAINFUL. It was an awful experience. These people were like vultures. Sending me messages, demanding I reply in like 30 seconds and asking dumb questions. The second the bidding ended they're all like "hurry up and ship my shit." "do this, do that" "this isn't what I paid for." "I took a microscope to this item and found a stray cat hair. That wasn't in the original description. I want a full refund back."

God dang people, don't you have lives and stuff to do besides annoy me and argue over 5 dollars? I found the whole experience frustrating, demeaning and not worth the time involved. Here I am arguing the price and condition of a purse that is literally 5 years out of style. I Ain't Got Time FOR DAT!

Never again.

Yep.

Used clothes and such now go to the Goodwill or Salvation Army stores where hopefully someone will get use out of them and I take the donation as a write off on my tax return.

Way less hassle.

Your mistake Doc was treating eBay like a retail store. EBay is the Internet's Sunday only outdoor flea market.

Yep, sold some books on EBay once. Had some asshat go off the bend because he had to pay an extra .25 at the post office. Never heard back from him after a reply back that basically told him he was an asshat and all he haf to do was let me know and I would have reimbursed him.
Not going there again

Ebay used to be good back about 8 to 10 years ago. I'm currently selling decoy lines and weights via Ebay but at a set price. I liked ebay when it wasn't directly linked to paypal and you could get your money from the buyer via money order and I also dislike the fact that as a seller I can't leave negative feedback for the buyer like I used to be able to.

Back last spring I had to wait 2 weeks for a buyer to pay for some snow goose rags and I didn't ship them out fast enough according to the buyer. Well Ebay refunded the money back to them, buyer kept the rags and I got left eating the cost. Ebay is still trying to get that money out of me. They can go puond sand. I refuse to pay Ebay back for their refund that they issued.

I prefer to sell stuff on craigslist face to face, but even there you get the craigslist crazies that will hit you up. When you have to deal with the general public, you never know what kinda idiots you're going to run into. :tk: :tk: :tk: :tk:

I currently have a guy wanting a deal if he buys 8 dozen decoy lines and weights off of me on Ebay....He might get a deal if he buys 50 dozen...not 8.

I love ebay and have only ever had good experiences. I guess its to who you are selling to though. If its something that will interest a man like some deer antlers i sold back a few months. those type of buyers arent annoying as shit.

I love buying from EBay. I get good deals. I am afraid to sell though. I've always feared the experience MM had. I have bunch of lightly used or new baby crap I need to unload too.

If you sell the clothes as a lot, it goes much better. That's how we buy clothes for the kids, and sell their old ones. Never had a problem.

eBay has gone down hill. More times than not, you can get a better deal on amazon.com
eBay is now full of people selling new stuff that got at auctions or other cheap sources, and try to sell for new prices again. For something that's been bought and sold several times already.
eBay is good for finding little things like trim/tilt motor switch, or an old laptop battery, but most everything else is overpriced.

How bad was it on a scale of 1-10?

9, because the only way it could have been worse was if these mouth breathers were physically going Deliverance on me instead of me just imagining this was the case.

I would argue it was my distinct, keen understanding of the concept of a 1-10 scale that allowed me to intelligently and appropriately respond, thus, inevitably providing you a crystal clear image of the severity of my experience.

The key you eBay is to look at their feedback.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. I think the buying aspect is probably fine.

It's the freaking vulture buyers that as a seller is intolerable. I'm getting ordered around and having unrealistic demands being made of me, all while people are critiquing my shit trying to make me lower the price.

I mean it kinda hits a nerve to be having someone say your stuff is this or that and puts me on the defensive. I just didn't like the whole experience. I'm not some random person's lacky to be ordered around and talked down to.

bought a schoolbook on there for last semester, i had problems with it. the seller wouldn't respond to my email and also had an error that made me think the book never shipped. after a week with no word back i got pissed and told them to cancel my order if they couldn't ship it, got home from school that day and the book was on my porch.
