Should be a good week.

Finally starting to get some decent draws. The next 5 shoot days are looking good. With the temperature starting to feel like duck weather, and golden ticket in my hand for Wednesday. I'm feeling optimistic. Hopefully that hunt goes well and starts a 2 week trend of quality shoots. This Saturday is going to be my Nephews first duck hunt since he passed his Hunters Safety. Should be an interesting morning to say the least. I'll be getting the hot chocolate and Reese's Pieces ready for him. I Hope he enjoys himself and gets addicted to this thing called Waterfowling.

Since last Wednesday hunting has gotten tough. With a little luck things will turn around. Hope the birds are flying. So the kid can burn some powder.

We went from cold to a warm up spell for the next week. Cold air is going into Canada and the Rockies. You should be getting birds soon.

Hope so. That little push of birds we had a couple of weeks ago. Wised up and found the closed zones. They were easy pickings up to the middle of last week.

Eastern Washington got cold and froze the easy water as well. Not sure how far into Oregon it is going to get cold.

Well you should get a push then. If snow comes as well and covers up food you will get invaded.

That would be cool. We haven't see the mallards like we usually do the last few seasons. A good portion of them have been holding up in Washington. Nowadays we seem to kill the bulk of them early and late in season. The local birds go first and then what ever makes it down to us from up north.

We see flocks of mallards by the 100's or more flying in January in Eastern Washington and lots of them. They stay by the grain elevators and gorge in the cold weather. The Big C doesn't freeze so there is no reason to leave.

Yup, I heard since they went row crop crazy up there they have been holding tight. We still do see on good cold fronts "which hasn't happened much lately" a influx. The harvest numbers are down for sure on mallards. But everything else seems to be going up. So that's cool.

I don't know about the rest of the state but, it has already started getting colder here in the NW corner of the state. They have temps in the low 20s forecast for the next week or so. Last I remember, Tripod said they were due to freeze up also.
Hopefully, it will push you new birds for your Nephews hunt.
Good luck Gaddy. He'll have fun, I'm sure.

Turned out to be a decent hunt. The new bird idea really didn't play out. Birds today were highly educated.

You are correct! when you are calling from and your decoys are literally in the closed zone that's good placement.

Actually that pond is set up for a south wind. With it coming out of the north. I had to get alittle creative with the decoys to make it work right.
