It's Killin' Me

Every night between 7:50 and 8:05 these jokers fly over. 32 more days, bustards. 32 more days. Then the UniCorn Blind is going to be set up in the back pasture, right underneath them.

Just not right, had a flock of about 20 in a wheat stubble field right beside the road heading out of town Saturday morning.

In the boats today we saw at least 8-10 dozen throughout the day loafing around. 34 more days!

Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

I enjoy goosing far more than ducking, but I've lost a lot of my spots to the big-money leasers coming down from across the bay. Helping out around a farm only goes so far, when you have somebody offering $10,000 a year.

That's just crazy. I got offered a spot right by a public WMA here for about 400 bucks a season. They only hunt it 8-10 times a year and at times can be an amazing location. I'm considering getting in it. Beats the hell out of 1000-1500 in Arkansas. Wont kill the amount of ducks, but it's quite close to the house.

Goose hunting is kind of a fall back for me during the season. If I don't find the ducks, we goose hunt, because they are always here. Can't think of a day in the past few years when we haven't limited out. I would rather duck hunt solely on the fact that there is a variety to choose from, and I'm not very good at calling ducks so it's more of a challenge.

Can't wait for September goose, the freezer is empty :( I plan on canning a lot of it this year too.

AT, we jumped a flock of about 1.5 times that many when we took the boat out for a ride today. It got me a little excited.

What's the average size of those?

We have relatively large birds in my area, not sure of all of the exact species we have. Typically all between 9-11 lbs. Every year we get the occasional 12-13 lbers, biggest ever being just a hair over 14 for me personally. I'd like to see some of the smaller ones come around here as I've never gotten to shoot anything smaller, or cacklers.

Better use some black cloud on those suckers.

There is 3 flocks that started eating in a dirt lot next to the MOA. It was an office building that they demolished 2 months ago, and they put down a bunch of straw (for what reason, I have no idea), and I guess the geese like it.

I can't find the video right now, but there's a guy who designed about a 5ft barrel that has ports all down the top so when you shoot, your shotgun is about as loud as an air rifle. I got to shoot it at game fair last year. Kinda fun for being a ridiculously long gun.
