Only a little after 11pm here and my wife is in bed, our friend Susan and I are still up drinking and cooking black eyed peas for the big party tomorrow. Wish us luck, we have invited 60+ people and made enough eggnog for all..

Happy New Years to all.

Red gray squirrels or I think some call them fox squirrels? Oddly enough that is what most the gray squirrels in our woods are, but I think some where I read/saw that there aren't that many of them?

Oh. Fox squirrels here are considered "endangered", and we're not allowed to shoot them, but I've never seen ones that look that orange.

For real?!?!
The cities around here are over run with them. They are starting to move into the country more and more because they are pushing themselves out of the populated places. Saw a couple up north this fall 50 miles from the nearest big city. They are pretty damn tasty though.

I just had to do some Googling. Apparently the one here which is "endangered" is the Delmarva Fox squirrel, a subspecies of the regular fox squirrel.

And here's what they look like (you'll see now why I said I'v e never seen them so orange- didn't know it was a "subspecies") I would like to say that there is a 50/50 chance I've shot these thinking it was a standard gray squirrel, but that would be implicating myself. Allegedly.

That makes a little more sense. Didn't know there were subspecies either.

We used to have a ton if reds but the greys seem to breed more or something because 10 years ago, that pic would have been reversed in the amount of each species.

On a side note, this was my first time hunting them with Winchester hollow points and probably the last. Those little bullies fuck them little squirrels up! I Texas heart shot one and his insides were freakin soup!
