Some small businesses suck!

as most of you know, i live in the country. well, out in the country, it is a little more expensive to recieve trash hauling services. but me liking to support the little guy, i went with the only small business that offers sanitary hauling in my area, Dillman Sanitary Hauling. i have recieved OK service from them for over 4 years now, have never missed a payment, and usually leave a 12 pack of beer out as a Christmas present for the route hand (the owner or his son, whoever decides to drive that day). occationally, maybe 3-4 times a year, they would miss a pick-up. not on a holiday or any other occasion, just plain miss a pick-up with no notification to me in any way shape or form. i always let it slide and still paid full price for his service, which is more expensive than his much larger competition (but remember, i like supporting small business). well, this past october, he missed a pick-up.....and once again, i let it slide without so much as a phone call. but when a pickup was missed before thanksgiving the very next month (and an expected miss the next week on thanksgiving day), with no phone call, email, or any other notification, my wife and i decided we will stop paying for services that we do not recieve.
i called him up the week after thanksgiving to notify him that his next payment from us would reflect the service that we had actually recieved, not what we expected to recieve. he became short very quickly and never even offered an apology for any missed pick up. the last thing he said to me was "i am too busy to argue over a few dollars. pay what ever you feel is appropriate."
so we did. we paid for the two pickups that actually happened during the month of november. he picked up the next week and we were back to our normal schedule. or so we thought.
the next week, i hauled the cans out to the road wed night for his mid morning pickup the following day. this pickup never came. i hauled the cans back in after work on friday, thinking that maybe he was a day behind (wishful thinking, i have a bad habit of giving people the benifit of the doubt). i ended up hauling the trash to my father-in-laws work. when i didnt get a call or email by Sat, i decided to give him a call on monday. the phone rang 3 times and went to voicemail. i left my name and number and very politely inquired as to why my trash had not been picked up. i never recieved a return call.
The week after, we did not aquire enough trash to justify even pulling the cans out (i should have just to see if he had come, but thats my mistake). then the day after Christmas, a shceduled pick up day, we were away visiting family and were not able to get the cans to the curb.
well today i called after another missed pickup yesterday to see what was going on, and unless he had one hell of an excuse, tell him we will find trash service elswhere. this time, two rings and sent to voicemail. again, i left my name and number and asked that he call me back at his convenience. well, i highly doubt that call will come now that i see what came in the mail today.
i recieved a note (literally a note. torn off piece of scrap paper) from Dillman Sanitary Hauling. on this very professional looking note was one simple sentance-"Please find someone else to pick up your trash." written in barely legible chicken scratch. this "letter" was postmarked 12/30. so this sorry fucker waited a whole month (all the while i was aquiring trash), without any service to me, to inform me that he is no longer offering his less than great service. and i would be willing to bet he waited that long hoping that he would get paid for his not doing shit for the month of december. luckily, we were holding payment because the lack of service. i just cannot believe that a business would treat its customers this way and expect to stay in business. i am fuckin pissed over this childish behavior. i will be talking to all of my neighbors, family and friends, and any other person who ever inquires about trash service, of this shotty business and horrible owner.
