Those trained ducks

I know a man that many years ago trained a bunch of mallard ducks to follow him. He kept them in a cage in his yard. He hunted nearby rice fields and his tame ducks were...decoys.

He'd go to the field, call his spouse, and have her release the pet ducks. They'd fly to the guy. He called them.

Did it for years he claims.
Then, one day, his field was surrounded by gw's so he called the shot on his decoys, killed them. The gw's never did figure out wtf was going on but were really close.

My grandfather had live decoys but not like those.
