Taxidermy ducks???

Postby aunt betty » Tue Jan 21, 2014 9:35 am

I have two...does this mean I was THREE over my possession when I had 19?

If so...Macks Prairie Wings is in violation in a big way.
Go and see.

To put it straight and simple.
Do stuffed ducks count towards your possession limit?

That really is a good question. Basspro here has abt 100 stuffed mallards flying through their ceiling in the middle of the store. Makes me wana start shooting every time I walk in there.

If you get them back during the season shot then they do. I would think. Most don't come back till after season so you got nothing to worry about. When was the last time someone checked you for that? Duck in the freezer to go to taxie would count for sure.
Got to love the mud.

They certainly should, if they're going to maintain that you can't sell them. Which I still find amazingly, mind-numbingly stupid and intrusive.

Someone said they wanted one mount of every species. Pretty sure if he gets there, he is done hunting forever.
I find that stupid.

I've got two mounted already and am getting two more done soon. The feds can go fuck themselves if they think that those count as part of my limit.

Wasn't this ruled on a long time ago? Don't they become art after the taxidermy process?

"We" decided that if you can't sell it, you don't own it and its merely in your possession.
Grey area.
I bet if you have six hen mallards on your wall and two dead ones on your strap it WOULD be a problem. Mallards are sacred for some damned reason.

There is no grey area. Olly is correct. Go check out Pat's(the waterfowler) mount collection over at DHC. He has hundreds upon hundred at his house.

It shouldn't matter where they are. What if I take 9 taxidermized mounted mallards in my Jeep with me, because I love them like children or some crazy shit, and then when I put in 4 mallards from the morning's hunt, am I over my possession limit? Or my daily limit, for that matter? If they're gonna say a stuffed duck is the same a freshly dead duck, they're idiots.

They don't. Read Ollys post.

Didn't mean to troll. It appears that way though. I'm not having an ducks mounted because it costs too much and the last ducks I had done...the mother fucker sold them to Cabelas. How?

It took him two years to complete them and I paid more than half up front...he mailed me a letter saying come get your ducks. I jumped in the truck and zipped to his shop that day and he had already sold both ducks. I paid fully for one. I fucking hate the SOB and was considering burning his shop...over a pair of BANDED ducks.

All the waterfowl mounts that Cabelas and Bass Pro have on display don't belong to them. They are on loan from the owners. I asked the head manager at the Cabelas in MI one time.

Sangamon River Valley Taxidermy. He's a rip off and all he wants to do is bears and deer now.
Its been 15 years and I still want to have him taxidermy himself.

Not all of them, at cabelas at least. Many of the birds in cabelas stores were shot by dick cabela, and mounted by a taxidermist here in my town.
Im sure lots of the mounts are on loan though.

Okay well maybe the few dozen vs the thousands they have on display are his. But any that aren't are on loan because you can't sell waterfowl.

A few dozen might be a low guess. He told me at some of the stores nearly every bird in it is his work.

I suspect their is a provision that allows tacidermists to sell unclaimed waterfowl that has been taken legally.

I'm almost positive you can sell raised ducks.

I don't see how and if there is that is bullshit. If I pay for $225 to have one mounted and down the road I want to sell it I should be able to. For a taxi to be able to do it, and the owner not, would make no sense.
