Replacing windows

I'm going to be replaceing most of the windows in my house in the next month. Have been trying to research exactly what windows I need to replace with but I cant find exactly what I'm looking for. I have the original single pane windows with the new contruction nail flange installed behind the siding, standard deal there. I've seen the pocket and prehung windows some that fit over the existing frame and others that it seems like you remove old window and frame in around the window sill to allow a smaller window to fit in and have somewhere to screw to? I will also be replacing the siding around the back of the house anyways but that doesn't help where the windows are behind the brick.

Pull them out, look at windows with masonry clips rather than flanges, then spray foam and wrap with metal or other trim

after you get them out sand them down so you dont get a nasty splinter later on.

Or you could measure the rough opening you have (you can do this just by pulling the trim on the inside), and go order done from the lumber yard. Pop out the old, place and square the new, shim the sides and screw through into the jacks, no clips needed. You will have to trim out and bend some metal on the outside. That's what we always did for replacements. It's not nearly as painful as it sounds.

Bend what? No trim inside just the sheetrock I believe.

No, outside. The gap gets closed, usually with 1x, and then you bend metal to cap it. Have used Azek before, but metal looks nicer, IMO.

Look into vinyl replacement windows I think you will be happy with how easy they are. You can get sliding or hung windows and in various colors too.

That's what I want. Our air or heat essentially has to be running for the room to be comfortable. Once the heat shuts off it almost instantly gets cold. Windows are garbage. Plan to blow some more insulation in the attic as Well.

Assa the clips aren't shit really, just saves you having to drill a screw through the sash, can be used on wood also

And if your drywall is wrapped to the window, it's gonna need to go unless you do inserts

I meant it's not cold, so they don't have 2x6 walls. I've never seen sheetrock wrapped into the window on anything less than a 2x6 wall.

About 10 miles north east of the hell hole known as Austin. I'd buy the beers but don't think it's all that complicated as I'm making it. Windows are one that I've just never messed with and it seems like they vary a bit.

So, went to "price" new windows this morning, that seemed innocent enough. Second stop we found what we liked at what we thought was a fair price so ran home to get final measurements. Six hours later six windows in. Definitely the last thing I would have said I was doing this morning when I woke up. Thought I was going to work!
