I will be finished with my masters degree in accounting in approximately 3 years. After that I would be interested in pursuing a Phd in accounting. I am searching till the end of the internet trying to see if it is actually worth the time and energy. A quick job search finds that if I do go after the phd about all I will end up doing is being a college professor. So my question is for those with banking/money jobs, is it worth the time to pursue it even if I have no interest in becoming a college professor?

if you want to be a prof then I think you answered your own question.
if you don't then I think you also answered it.

I wanted to see if there were any other uses for that besides becoming a professor.

Of course. Wouldn't a PhD give you a leg up on a cushy management job?

Something like that. 3geese, I admire your will to be an accounter, especially to get a masters in it. I don't have the patience to be in school that long. Good luck to ya!

On a slightly related note, I had a basically illiterate sergeant major at one of my units. At a battalion formation one Friday, he was expounding on the value of further education. He stated, in all seriousness, that he had a PhD AND a doctorate. This is the same guy who sandbagged me with his "merkstack" question on a board.

A masters in accounting...........I would think that you can make more money over the next 30 years with a CPA than you can with a Phd.

Teach at a university. You teach a few classes. After you get the course work set up, all you have to do us make minor changes. The work is a piece of cake. The huge pluses are:
1. Summers off
2. Good pay for little work.
3. No responsibility.
4. No liability.
5. Tenure = job security.
6. Constant and ready supply of young pune to augment what your marriage may lack after kids. Or if you're like me, you just love strange.
7. Did I mention summers off?
University professor is the best gig going. You'll regret it everyday you're laboring in an office taking chit from dipshit bosses if you don't go for it.
