Serious Question

Postby assateague » Mon Feb 17, 2014 6:03 pm

Ok, I've been poking around, looking for 80% 1911 lowers. Haven't found many places that sell them, but did find one that has them in stock.

Here's the rub. They are $360, unless you pay in silver or gold. It's some place in Montana, and they don't call dollars "dollars", they call them "FRN"s, or "federal reserve notes". Rarely do I come across people more "extreme" than I am, but they are it  They say they prefer silver or gold, but will take "FRN" is they have to .

It's $360 in "FRN".
OR
An MS70 grade $1 Silver Eagle (which are online for $99)
OR
A 1/10 ounce Golden Eagle (which are online for $150)

So what's the catch? I can buy the same lower for either $99, $150, or $360?

Here's their website

http://www.ktordnance.com/kto/order.php#fv

Here's the silver for sale which they specify (complete with a picture of what they want)

http://www.govmint.com/pages/2013-silver-eagle.html?ad=GS1020G&gclid=COWzlsqg1LwCFe1cMgodKEUA-Q

And here's the Golden Eagle they specify (complete with a picture of what they want)

Everybody knows the dollar is about to tank. The gold and silver will hold their value when the government goes belly up. So in all reality it is more expensive to pay with gold or silver. Make sense?

I'm still having a problem with their "conversion". I can buy the lower for $1 silver coin ($99), or $360 FRN. But the shipping is $1 silver coin or $15 FRN. Pretty sure I would go the FRN option for shipping, rather than giving them another hundred bucks to mail the damn thing to me. They also specify either a 1/10th, 1/4, or 1/2 ounce for the gold purchasing option. Why anybody would send 1/2 ounce when they could send 1/10th ounce is beyond me.

I'll call them tomorrow. What the hell, I'm already on enough watch lists, not like one more is going to hurt.

After looking at that website, that is going to be one expensive gun once you get done with it.

Would cost you $554 + shipping on the coin link you posted

Yep, now that you say that, I see it.

And hammer, I have no intention of buying any other parts from them, just the lower.

I get you but the slide is $200 then you got to buy all the springs, screws, and whatnot. Gonna cost more than your AR but it wont exist.

Badass man. May have to sell a call or two and put one of those fuckers together this summer. If I get busted with a pistol it might as well be one they didn't know existed.

Are you going to buy a jig or try and do it freehanded?

If I can get a polymer lower, I'll do it myself. That should put me around $500, finished.

holy shit! i have been thinking of doing one of these for a while but now i think i have to. the route i was going to take was to buy a TISAS gun complete and strip all the parts to put on the non-existant lower, then sell the tisas frame. tisas is 399 w/free shipping and i figure i could sell the frame for $50-100

i like that price better though.....

Assa........seems to me that some are confusing the 1911 lower with the AR-15 lower.

Have you looked at the basic Rock Island Armory (RIA) complete pistols for less than $500. I've shot a few and can't see much difference between them and my 1918 Colt 1911. My cousin had an RIA that he bought new for $359 and had a couple of springs replaced and the trigger/sear worked on all for about $50 and had a great feeling and shooting .45.

Ron, the point of getting this frame and building your own 1911 is that it technically will not exist. the 80% lower (frame) for a 1911 is no different than buying a piece of angle iron from menards. no. records. period.

EP said they were working on a polymer frame but it doesn't look like they figured that out yet. It doesn't look like its going to be easy to do a metal frame at all.
