I agree with betty. If the government assigned them as $20 coins they are worth $20. That's all a bank is going to give you for them if you went to cash them in. I would fight that tax bill if they do get charged $5 million in taxes.

You could argue that all the inflated value of the coins was due to inflation by the govt. which it true.

Well, it doesn't surprise me after the bank fraud punishment fiasco.
Here is just a piece of what they are doing to Americans already hurting. They hand down punishment to the bank(s) and they are required to pay out to homeowners they screwed and now, the homeowners have a big ass tax bill. They are calling the "settlement" income. Fucking lawyers are running our government, what should we expect?

That article is just scratching the surface. They are doing the same thing to the people who lost their homes and received settlements. The Govt. orders bank to pay us and then bills us 40% and then your states tax rate.
It was supposed to be a punishment to the banks, not the homeowners.

Fuck the IRS, while I disagree with any tax at all, they shouldn't be able to tax it at all until it has been sold. The people bought a piece of property and it turns out the land paid in spades. If you buy land at 100k and then it appraised for 200k you dont pay capital gains until it sells.

They're coming to get em in Maryland, from an article I read but it's only felon gun owners I think. I shared the link on fb.

I saw that. And while I'm not concerned because of the "criminal" part, if anybody thinks there aren't going to be fuck ups in the records, they're nuts. I would fully expect a "fuck up" to show up knocking on my door one evening.
