The man broke another countries laws and he even tried to ditch his evidence.

While I think it is stupid and a waste of time that they physically took the fish away from him he deserved a fine and not have his name in the record books.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

Olly
My point was that he was only 100 feet away from a world record trout. Had he been in the US he would have been allowed to keep two fish. Do you realize how much that fish would have been worth to him in endorsement money? Six figures easily.

How in the world does one profit from a record?

Tackle companies, lure companies, clothing companies, fish hook companies etc. etc. would all have been after him to endorse their products. A world record lake trout would have made that man a small fortune in endorsements if he had played his cards right.

Bastard mounties are probably strutting around like they just stopped the crime of the century.

I'd let it rot before seeing it sent back over the border.

Lake Trout fisherman are the bottom of the angling totem pole. Putting a picture of a greaser on the package of your product is committing marketing suicide. People who don't have the money to afford the gear to pursue sportier fish succumb to fishing for lake trout.

That is a large one, though. Wonder how old it is.
