Duck Hunting tips and tricks.

Wanted to make a sticky for all the tips and tricks you guys have come up with related to duck hunting.

I'll start off here's one that I thought of last season and I just got some more bags in the mail so it made me think to add this sticky.

Large Ikea bags hold 1 dozen standard size decoys nicely. It's good for Texas rigged decoys. The bags can be had for less than a dollar.

My trick for the northern guys, dont worry about touching up your decoys, I've got a dozen 20 year old mallard deeks that look like they are coming out of eclipse plumage like all our early season birds.

I'll take an easy one. Be where the birds want to be. If you are, it doesn't matter if you are standing in the decoys, they will still try to land on your head!

I still haven't got pics of my stuff, but here's my bit of advice- birds are only ever concerned with 3 things- sex, food, and surviving. They can only focus on one of these at a time, so try not to overthink them. That's a big reason I started hunting alone- too many people want to "adjust", "tinker", or move. Just be patient, and eventually you'll get ducks to fly over who have food on the brain, instead of either of the other two.

the older I get the smaller I like my hunting groups. Nowadays I feel like anything over 3 (and that includes me), is a crowd

This applies to the hail callers:

Take that duck call and stick it in yer binger, you'll call just as many ducks with it.

Knowing your limits as a caller is a good thing. Learn how to read ducks, whether they need top be called at or not.

Tape a hand warmer around your call when its cold to keep it from freezing up.

Always pack 2 roll2 of toilet paper. Nothing is worse than getting the 30 second warning and having to use a perfectly good sock or shirt sleeve because you forgot TP.

If you are camping, check your waders before you pack them. Getting up on opening morning to find a 2 inch hole and a mouse nest in your boot is a real drag!!

Pretty tip on the Ikea bag, Olly. Those are some nice tough bags.

RB you're right, while I've never been to Ikea the fiance loves it and comes back with some good stuff for really cheap.

The BEST trick I know is to try and fool all the other hunters into thinking you are a poor hunter, don't know crap, and can't shoot, when in reality you are shooting limits daily.
