Looking at buying a used boat. What are some brands to look at and some to avoid? Would like something in the 16-17' range, tiller or console won't matter and it will be used strictly for fishing. Under 10k if possible.

There's another that I can't think of right now, but it's a damn good hull. NOT war eagle...well overpriced.
Phowler boats are nice, also check out brad Taylor here in nc. He builds wood boats.

Lund, smoker craft, polar craft. There's really not a bad one. Welded is heavier, more sturdy. Mine is riveted and I just put 5200 on them after the hunting season. I've tightened them up and the 5200 works just as good.

Skeeter or Ranger. Just watch out for old models with wood transoms.

Sorry for not responding. Im looking for a boat to handle Devils Lake, sakakawea and Audubon. Walleye and northern pike will be what we are fishing for.

V hull Lund or Lowe with high sides. A flat bottom will beat you to death on those big windy lakes

Just look on craigslist up there, and a big deep V. My uncle has quite the stories about those bodies of water

Do yourself a favor and have a boat shop check out the motor before you buy anything. $100.00 shop fee is worth avoiding $1000's later. I like Johnson and evenrude outboards best. I've had great luck with them.

I've only owned small motors but my next will most likely have a yamaha hanging on the back. Not saying that my johnson or rude's have been bad motors whatsoever though.

I've seen some of the guides around here have issues with the brand new larger yamahas, know another guy who has a 2003 he bought brand new and it's already dropping a cylinder. He's looking used so I figured a mid 80s or 90s Johnson or rude he can't go wrong with

I need to hit up bisman/craigslist and find me a mid 90's fish slaying machine that I can fix up in the winter.

Do it! It's fun, hell I enjoy just driving the damn boat up and down the river.

I don't know anything about newer motors, don't even show on my radar at what they cost!

I've always heard good about the older motors for reliability. I definitely agree Johnruds are awesome motors!

Older yamahas seem to be good but I'm not a merc or Honda fan
