I like to see what the pattern is early and how they are moving. Surprised I seen so many Ruff grouse. Normally I'm lucky to see one but ended up seeing a good 7-10 in total today. The only part about mountains like these is going down.

You would change your hunting style before changing your diet? Stubborn SOB :lol::lol:

Not going to lie, this hike was tough on me. 30 pounds of gear on the back and a rifle with boots I haven't worn in 6 months makes for a tough going. Got it done anyways.

Nice pictures. Looks like a good hike. You should probably go get yourself some Kennetrek boots. Getting your feet wet is not good for long hunts. Kennetrek headquarters is there in Montana. With the amount you're spending on weapons and scopes, the cost of a good pair of boots is nothing. A good pair of gaiters would help too. Cabelas has some good gaiters.
Good idea to get out early and get your legs ready. I highly doubt you'll get a pattern this early of elk for October but, if you keep going out, you'll be able to see how and where they're moving around. Keep paying your dues, you'll get the pay off eventually.
I try to get out twice a week starting in Feb.

But losing weight would require you to use less oxygen. I'm just yanking your chain anyways. Food is my first live. I'm just having an affair at the moment with being healthy

I've got a good set of old danners and Irish Setters at home and a pair of gaiters. Pant legs didn't get wet at all. Today, I just threw on a trash pair of Irish Setters I had from last season that got beat up bad. These elk right now just seem to be going in a big circle (Like they usually do). I like this country. Not my favorite hunting country but its nice to get out. It's been pouring down pretty hard for the last few days. I needed to get out.
