How can a fuel pump only last 2 years? Not in a good mood today.

The crazy high pressures at which they operate means a shirt life, fuek pumps have been a problem since the inception of the vortec engines. Where others will normally run with lower pressures, GM wont fire at pressured below 54 psi i believe, not 100% sure of exact min. pressures.

You're right at the psi this is the 2nd one I'll be replacing! I'm glad the guy I'm hunting with this weekend has a truck. So we can still pull the boat.

What's it gonna run you to have it replace? I had money saved up for a AR and was about to pull the trigger last month, within two days I had over 2k in repairs between my two trucks, made me sick.

Just the cost of the pump, I'll replace it myself. I can get the pump online for $180ish. Got a buddy who will be in town tonight is going to help me tow it home since of course I am here at work. Luckly I only live 8/10th of a mile here. Since I'll be walking home and all

Take it to Williams in TC, they will screw up your transmission so that the fuel pump wont bother you

Another reason to love a Jeep. Fuel pump is right on the outside of the tank, with absolutely nothing in front of it. Everything on that was made to be fixed or replaced in a back yard, I swear.

I used to be HUGE into Jeep XJs the hobby was taking over my life so I sold it. Now duck hunting is doing the same thing

If you look around online, you can find the actual just pump inside the fuel pump assembly online for a lot cheaper. I found this out after I shelled out $200 for the fuel pump in my S-10 that online they were going for $30. It all has to come out of the tank anyways.

Also, you can usually get the pump working by pounding on the tank with a hammer or some other object while someone tries to start the truck. Usually you want to be the one hitting it because you are pissed off at the truck so hitting it always makes you feel better. It jars the pump enough to let it wiggle to start working. This will only get you home, and is not a fix for the pump. Might save you trying to tow it home though.


Also, don't run your tank down to E so that the gas in the tank keeps the pump cooled.

That's the pickup pump Goldie, chevy has another pump on the side of the block that runs off the cam. Pickup pump just sends gas to the fuel pump

Last deer season a buddy of mine's 05 chevy 1500hd died on him on the way home from the hills. He got out, all pissed off, and took a hitch and went to beatin' on the tank. Fired right off and still works to this day.

I just drive Fords, they're reliable. As long as you don't pull loads meant for a 3/4 ton almost every day. Then the 6 speed tranny in the new F-150 will lay down on you.

I had a ranger back when that's beat the snot out of because I got it for free. What finally killed it was one of the two fuel pumps went out, and I didn't know if it was the high pressure fuel pump or the lie pressure fuel pump Andi wasn't going to invest the money to figure it out our spend the money on which ever one it was going to be. No manufacturer is immune to the idiosyncrasies of what can happen when over little thing stops working.

Illy, didn't know the newer truck had the two. My 98 s-10 only had the one in tank pump
