2012 Drought

Postby Olly » Sun Sep 23, 2012 7:11 pm

What do the areas around you guys look like?

I cannot believe how low the water is. Today I went to an easy HH I've hunted dozens and dozens of times over the years and was even there with my boat just 2 months ago. This afternoon I found no access by water.

Another bay that is my main hunting area has a small river giving access to it and the mouth of the river is about 6-8" deep. Jenfinger and I spent 3 hours on Saturday after our own hunt and troubles getting stuck helping a fellow hunter with a nice MM get his boat off pretty much dry ground. Last year he wouldn't have any problems in the area he was in.

I know I don't have it as bad as others in the country but for here it's still bad.

Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

Our water finally came back up this year. Last year we had lakes 30-40' low

i launch on a gravel launch to do my hunting, you know the type, gravel about 15ft into the water, till about 5ft deep. well my truck tires were in the mud after the gravel when i launched for teal season. i also saw 3 islands one of which was 3 times the size (used to be 2 separate islands), and the other two i have never seen before in the 7 years i have been going to that lake. but the millet is plentiful!!

Things are pretty dry here right now, but if we get the rain we need, then we have some flooded vegetation to hunt.

Not looking good. Went with TK todsy to test his new boat, 1 ramp ended about 20ft. from the water. Did get a few pics of the dock, people were fishing over 50 ft. from the normal water line.

they say we are in an exceptional drought here but its been raining more this summer than the past 4 or 5 combined. rivers up, ponds and marshes are up. no complaints here. most of the big lakes tho are georgia power lakes and they are down due to letting water thru the dams.
