I'd like to offer the following public service announcement:

If your wife buys a Kitchen Aid mixer, read the directions and thoroughly familiarize yourself with its operation before using it. Some things to look out for:

1. There is a locking lever for the head on the right side, and a throttle on the left side. They are identical, and are both engaged by pulling towards you. If you have a bowl of flour and dry ingredients getting ready to make some more lemon zucchini bread, and you THINK you are pulling forward on the locking lever, but really pull the throttle all the way to its stop, you WILL have a Godawful mess to clean up.

2. Before you know/realize that there even IS a locking lever, if you try to make bread and have the bread kneading hook on, if the head is jumping up and down and the very heavy mixer is hopping all over the counter like a rodeo bull, this is not "how it's supposed to be", no matter how vigorously you tell your wife this when she comes downstairs to see what the hell is going on in the kitchen.

3. After she explains the locking mechanism, don't assume "you've got this". The head is VERY heavy, and VERY well balanced. It doesn't take much effort to tilt it down. It sort of just falls toward the bowl. If your pinky finger is in the hinge, it WILL pinch it, it WILL hurt like a bastard, and it WILL be very hard to calm down enough to reach across with your other hand and lift the damn thing back up.

The first just happened, which prompted me to share all of these pointers. Hopefully it will help someone. That is all. Have a good day.

My wife has been asking me for one of these. I will keep this in mind. I saw a "refurbished" one in a strip mall for like 80 bucks a while back. If I had known they are usually 300 bucks I woulda bought it.

Good to know. We have one of those things still in the box out in the garage. One of those things that she had to have, and has never actually used.

Ice cream maker? I need to look into this. I know there is a casing attachment too.

Its a thick bowl that you freeze for a day and a scrapper. Dump in the ingredients and turn on low. in ten minutes you have ice cream. My wife makes a bourbon ice cream thats awesome!

No. I cook. I get sick of take out food. When I don't cook, her mother does.

My wife knows exactly where its at. Every once in a while she goes in there to cut her fingers. I've never seen anyone so bad with a knife.

The emo/Goth kids in school weren't good with knives either.

I use mine everyday. Even if i don't make anything, I just fire her up and let her run for 15 minutes or so. Love that sound. Does my soul good.
