I feel sorry...

Postby Redbeard » Mon Oct 08, 2012 2:16 pm

...for y'all without kids to take hunting. This'll be Sam's second year hunting. Although he's tagged along for years before he could tote a gun. All my plans so far this pre-season has been about how I can best put him on some birds. Before last season I wasn't sure if I could just let go and let him do the shooting. Was afraid I'd be too selfish. Well that didn't last long. It took about 5 minutes into his first hunt. Sitting back and enjoying the show was a gift from God. Watching him help with the work, handle the gun, the excitement he gets with each bird, makes me a proud daddy. It also gave me a chance to focus more on Charlie. Hope some of y'all get to experience what us dads get too soon.

I know a lot of y'all have seen these pictures already

The boys are all geeked up for this weekend. I try to take them as much as I can early in the season, before the weather gets nasty. Sometimes we kill, sometimes we just set decoys and bird watch...but we always have fun.

I can't wait until they are ready to shoot too...

Judging from your stories and pictures, if I will someday be half the father you are, I'll consider it an accomplishment.

I was bringing one upstairs tonight and he asked if he could have it...so I guess that's that. He's only 6 so it will be a couple years yet.

Red, being a young man that is just now warming up to the idea of one day wanting to be a father I can say that if I have a son that turns out like that kid I'd be a proud dad. Good job!

^This. I couldn't ask for a better father but the outdoors is one thing he never really made time for. Wish we had.

You have to at least punish him with an 870 for a couple years. Or if he really pisses you off a Mossy 500

False, you don't cringe at the thought of getting your teeth knocked out on shot one. Shot two, three when possible, no pump to rack leaving the barrel gently falling into place to drop sprig number two. Lastly shooting Xperts leaves you no room to bitch about shell expenses.

Any expense leaves me room to bitch about expenses.

I was supposed to take the oldest out with me this Saturday for our first split opener, but she just found out she has to go to her dad's. She is pissed, which makes me sort of happy.

Great pics Aaron, brings back memories. My little man has grown and is 30 now. Seems like yesterday I was carrying him in my backpack, so he could go deer hunting with me. My baby girl will be 22 next month and I still remember clearly the first grouse and duck she shot with her own shotgun.
I need to get a scanner for all the old pics I have stacked up of both my kids growing up on the boat and in the woods.
Keep up the great work "Dad".
