Usually we only have a few days of getting fully plumed woods and gwt before they head south. The woodies are fat right now, teal on the other hand are still in eclipse. Never seen a drake bwt in full plumage. Just last saturday there wasn't a mallard around with a full head of green the ones from tonight already had curls starting.

Not a bad night. You'll notice the funky duck in the middle. This is the second time this year I've tried to connect on a drake hoodie and got the bride. Ive never shot one and I guess it just wasn't meant to be. For the record I ate the last one and i'm gonna eat this one too.

Never worked so hard for four birds in my life. My shooting was terrible in the rain like usual. Missed a very nice pinny.

But I've waited all year for it!
Our first split ended today. Waders have been soaked since day one so it will be nice to give them a two week break. Tried going drakes only for a couple hunts...cuts my shhoting ability down quite a bit for some reason. Probably from trying to pick a specific duck out of the flock and thinking to much about it. Haven't seen crap for divers yet and not a songle gadwall in the spread yet. Hows the ducking out west? Too bad no one lives closer. A hunt would be fun

Our season won't open until Thanksgiving.
Eric you need to come down here and hunt fully plummed BWT and Sawbills aplenty.

I get made fun of pretty good for never getting a drake hoodie. there is a lake here that holds a lot of them but I don't hunt it because I don't have a bigger boat to get to the good spots. This year has only consisted of BWT, GWT, Mallard, Black, Wood and Ringnecks for me if I'm recalling right. It's been a long 9 days.

A few things on my bucket list are plumed BWT, Speck, cacklers and the southern ducks(mottled, BBW) In my area I will definitely never any of those.

I really wanted to make my way down through PA, NJ and MD but Assa has already changed my opinion on MD and I don't know anyone from the other 2. Florida is a stretch for me.

Well today worked out perfectly. Brought a couple first time hunters and an 8yr old future hunter. Only unfortunate part was we had our 18 bird limit in 2 flocks. The kid is now dying to go tomorrow and I wish he was a little bigger so he could shoot daddies gun. He absolutely loved retrieving geese for us.

Our first ever triple triple. couldn't find anyone else to go, so it was just the 3 of us. 1 hour setup, over on the first flock. Hate it.:-(
