I've only shot 5, and that's all that have come into the deeks. Sadly I have no pics of the elusive shoveler.

Thinking on it, I don't know that I've ever had a shot at one. I know I've never killed one, that's for sure.

You're missing out buddy. All up and coming west coasters cut their teeth on them. Nothing decoys easier.

Looks like we may just miss them, here. Like I said, I don't think I've ever even seen one.

Who would have thought spoonies are considered vagrants in Mexico?

We made our friend dust one in the decoys the other day. It was his first duck ;)

The world is coming to an end! Fillies and Gertrude are genetically engineering the spoony to fight the duck hunter at all cost. this new species is dangerous and virtually imposable to kill. the end is near.

Assa we kill them here. Mainly closer to the refuge and on very cold winters. You have to run all spoonie decoys to get them to come in.

Do they fly in bigger flocks like mallards? Last year I was out on the coast down in VA with waterfowlman, and was so stunned to see what I thought was a flock of mallards (about 100) flying over that we forgot to even call or shoot. Never see mallards over the ocean. Maybe it was spoonies?

I'd say they resemble pintails in flight. Biggest flock I've seen is about 10. Hammered 'em.

We have several spot where we kill mallards and gadwall on the ocean. During actual winters, unlike what we had last year, we saw hundreds every day in the marsh. Typically once the assateague refuge freezes over the hunting gets much better.
