Not my year

Looks like I will miss the early goose opener. Boat is no where near ready, can't get a decent gun mount with this broken wrist. Wrist is slowing up work on the boat. Surgery in Sept, plan is to be ready for the Arkansas hunt in November. Just to add insult to injury I broke my big toe last week so now I am even slower than usual!
Girlfriend's 23 year old son is big time helping me out with other projects that need to be finished, maybe I can sic him on the boat once I get the floor in.
Hope you all get out for your early opener and stack them up!

Reads to me like slow and steady is most apt to win the race to that November hunt. Best of luck with it.

STAY OFF OF LADDERS.
You want to break the other arm too?
By all means clean the gutters today then.

Sorry man. I have a feeling if you'd just start letting someone else help you get ready that it'd work out for you.
Delegating out chores is not something we lone wolves do well and sorry to say it but it would be better if you'd try and learn how.
I'd bet that all you gotta do is ask for some help. Hard to admit it tho.

Hate to hear it TR, but there will be other openers. Like Rick said, slow and steady, and hope that you have healed well enough to enjoy your dream hunt in November. Good Luck

Betty,
You are right, but it is hard to change habits at 61 years old. I do ask the boy for help often, but he usually offers before I ask. No ladders for me, I get a nosebleed standing on the scale! I am putting all efforts in to being ready for Arkansas and everything else is secondary. Boat will be ready for second split, as will wrist hopefully. We shoot more birds in the second half anyway!
thanks for the encouragement guys!
Bill

Where you going in arkansas?
You might want a plan B and don't forget that I sort of live at a WMA during duck season.

It could be worse. You could be this guy.

Betty,
We will be hunting with Jay Cranford of Hunts Unlimited. Plan is to spend some time in Stuttgart for the Wings Over the Prairie Festival, drop some coin at Mack's and maybe stop by Rich n Tone for a new goose call if they are back up and running by then
If you will be in the area we should get together for coffee or lunch or something

Sounds great but I'll be in Illinois.
First split in Arkansas is awesome for a few days. The local ducks get pounded and them first two or three days hunters are everywhere so you'll get action for sure. It slows down as the week goes on. Your hunts should be really easy. (compared to doing it yourself on public) Focus on the people and having fun. Wander around in Macks Prairie Wings but you'd be wise to set a limit before you walk it. It's overwhelming. If you ever wanted to try on like 20 pairs of waders in every brand and see which one you really like the best that's the place. Their wader area is fantastic. Like a shoe store.
Oh yeah. Rich N Tone is right next door to Mack's but they had a fire earlier this year.

Stuttgart and Arkansas in general is like taking a trip on the wayback machine with peabody and sherman back to around 1975. Enjoy that part and again...the people are so nice down there. You'll have fun.

Go to the museum of the grand prairie but don't let them suck you into the back with the "rice tour". You're wanting to get lost in that little room with all the duck hunting stuff. Spend a good 20 minutes in there, take some pictures, and make sure you look at them old shotguns in the rottiserie thing.

Try and stay out of the county jail in DeWitt. The food is awful.

Yeah, we were there 18 years ago. This is a reunion tour. Mack's is a bad place to have a high limit card! Didn't know about the museum so I will have to check that out. I don't drink and my buddy has toned down a little so we should be safe from the sheriff.
Thanks for the info!
