The truth:
The first colonists in America had it incredibly rough the first couple years. There was no excess anything. Let me explain.
They came to a new land and there were no rules so they made up their own rules and guess what...they decided to be socialists. YEP! For the first two or three years they sort of forced the young to work for the old. Threw everything into the "community pot" so to speak. Well guess what...there was a lot of thievery. People would steal crops at night or in broad daylight before the crop was even fully ripened.

According to my research a la Indaswamp it took almost 3 years for the colonists to crack and decide to re-do their system of trade. Socialism failed. Once they started a free trade setup people had incentive to profit and they did. Oh boy they did.
According to William Bradford the free trade farmers produced ten times as much grain and there was grain for export!

So today when you are cutting up that turkey remember that Thanksgiving means "Thank God we're not socialists".

The worst day of the year if you are a native American. The white man brought nothing but death and destruction when they came to the new world. We took their land, their way of life and when they wouldn't cooperate we just killed them. I believe they call it genocide now......................and we are still doing it to them.
