I find lots of them a week or so after the season ends most years.

A couple years ago I watched mallards flying out non-stop for hours. Somewhere around 11AM until around 3PM there was probably not more than a few minutes where I could not see at least 100 mallards heading out.

During hunting season I'm seeing ducks, singles, doubles, and not many a lot of days. After the season it is not unusual to see swarms.

I'm excited this year because our season runs roughly a week longer than normal because of the way the Saturdays in October fall and how they schedule our seasons. If we have a cold winter this should be a good year.

Now I need to start working on my excuse for duck hunting on Christmas day.

The colder the better. Excessive snowfall can be a problem. The nuke plants keep the water open.
