I'm a city slicker that has just lost his father and now am sort of a long-distance farmer in a very odd way.
Need a little tractor information.

My mother claims she sold a tractor for $3800. John Deere 750. !?!?!?!
First of all that's a bull dozer not a tractor. I think she's fibbing about it all so I started asking some questions.
Long story short she said tractors don't have titles or a VIN.
Is that true?

One of the last things my dad told me was he'd bring the tractor up with the log-splitter attachment. (runs on PTO)
Somehow it's magically converted into a dozer and got sold for a fraction of it's value. A 1977 JD 750 is listed online for over $20k. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

They imported a Yanmar series of tractors that one model was a 750, the series ran up to 1050.

That was probably a fair price depending on condition. They had issues, most were dry clutches and actually used a Mitsubishi car clutch, they were prone to burning up clutches and having rattling transmissions and final drives.

They do have serial numbers, usually on the final drive housing above the PTO, left or right of it. Some had them on the side of transmission because from the engine rails back there is no frame

I obviously don't know shit about farm implements.
Once I put gas in a diesel back-hoe because my boss told me to put gas in it then pointed to the gas cap and rubbed it in hard for like 5 minutes.
He said "gas" at least 6 times so that is what he got.
Was a really messed up day when the tractor ran out of diesel. Gas floats on top until the diesel is gone. Learned that the hard way.

Illinois does not title tractors. Had to look that up.
