Rough Day

Postby Weston81 » Tue Oct 16, 2012 4:38 pm

So I turned the big 31 today and got a call that my best friends Dad passed away on the operating table unexpectedly. As I slowly get older I realize that things like this are going to happen. Just made me reflect on the relationships with peoples parents as you grow up. This man put me to work picking up rocks in his horse pasture, bailing hay, cleaning the barn etc just like he did his own son. I nicknamed his house "Camp Smith" as he always would but me to work. When I was at his house I treated him with the same respect I did my own Dad and he treated me like a son in return. As I got older our relationship changed and it went from a father/son relationship to a friend relationship. I'd go to his famliys farm during deer season and we'd drink beer and shoot the chit just like I would with any friend. I will greatly miss this man but will take the lessons I learned from him. Sorry guys just had to vent.

Sorry to hear. Just had my father up here this weekend. Having him over is like staring in a mirror and chit chatting with myself. Can be irritating and it's stories like yours that help me realize I need to try harder cuz our time is short. Sorry again and thanks for sharing.

Sorry to hear it man, things will work themselves out and start looking up soon.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

Never easy news to take, just have to support those around you and remember the good times.

My dad's not old by any means, but I still try to spend as much time as possible with him! Happy birthday and sorry for the lost friend!

Thanks guys, it was a third colon surgery in two days. Flat lined on the table on the second one and they brought him back, put him on a ventolator(sp?). Didn't make it through the third surgery, which was a last ditch effort.

Sorry to hear Weston. I'm in the same boat with you. I've had several family members die fairly recently and they start to suck more and more the older I get. I'm starting to realize that we all have a time, and I need to value the time I have with the people I want to be around (family, close friends)

I also realized to stop wasting time on people that can contribute nothing. Spend that time with the family, and real friends.

Hang in there, and prayers are sent for the family.

Grizz,
I actually thought about your situation several times yesterday and appreciate the prayers. It's part of life but it sure puts things in perspective.

While it sucks, getting this perspective is one of the greatest gifts we can ever have. If we ever find ourselves losing that perspective, we should take a second and remind ourselves what it cost us to gain it. Prayers sent up for you, brother.

Couldn't agree more, it's events like this that allow us to become better people in a weird way.

x2. I lose it too often. Sometimes I need a jolt to remind myself.
