Luck of the Draw........

Postby Deltaman » Mon May 21, 2018 7:40 am

My t-top/boat building stepson (Dustin) asked me if I could help him with some sort of show/booth he had going on Saturday eve, and mentioned that it was some sort of draw down. Jenny and I helped him transport and set up one of his more intricate t-tops and a custom leaning post/seat, as well as the customer casting platform he was raffling off as a vendor, and got him set up at the show. The mention of it being a draw down caught my wife's attention, so I inquired as to details, and bought one of the $100 tickets. Even purchased what they called "insurance", for an add'l $20, they put your number back in the first time it is drawn.........had never heard of that, but what the heck, I bought it too. Turned out to be one of the local facebook fishing groups. They had a great food set up (catered locally), and a good band as well. In addition to the booth set up, he also brought the custom 13.5' aluminum duck boat he has been building for me. That thing drew as much attention as anything at the show, and people were constantly checking it out. Anyway, by 9:30 p.m., my old arse was getting tired, and they had only called a few raffle items by that time, so I handed our boy the draw down ticket, and asked him to follow it for us. I had just dozed off around 10:30 p.m. when my phone rang, with excited hollering on the other end, screaming that we had won!!!!! The old saying "bet it like it ain't your money" came into play when they got down to the last few survivors, and they kept talking about a split. Dustin said they were pissed at him, as everybody wanted to do the split, but he held out...........and damn if he wasn't the last man standing.....woooohoooooo, $5k payday  The thought of Eric's post "Winner winner, chicken dinner" came to mind, and Dustin said the crowd was going wild! When we all sat down for lunch yesterday, we decided to split the pot with him, he earned it!

Me2
Got dragged to one of them sort of things in Jonesboro.
They had bottomless beer cups and special bottomless cocktail glasses. They had every liquor you could name.
Resisted the cheap drunk but the two guys I went with got wasted.

They had like Las Vegas show girls going from table to table trying to sell tickets. One of my buddies went home broke. Hate to say what he threw down over a pretty face and a good cause. The southern version of DU...I forget. The canvasback one.

We tried sitting at a sponsor table but got ushered over to the "nobody table" which was right next to the food so I was happy.
Strawberries barbeque from Missouri. OYeah.

The big prizes were duck calls and a huge monster goose pit. (just the metal box)
I've heard that it's incredibly stupid to fuck around with a crazy man's head.
