Ice Chest

Postby DComeaux » Mon Sep 03, 2018 4:13 pm

I purchased a coleman extreme sometime back and have been very pleased with it's ability to keep ice. I had it and my sons Yeti this weekend and I can say I'm not impressed with the yeti. It didn't keep the ice any better than the extreme did with the same use. The Yeti is much larger and heaver to get the same inside capacity, and is at least three times the cost.

I didn't take the yeti this weekend with the intentions of a comparison test, but I did think I would be able to keep ice longer, and it didn't happen. Just goes to show you what good marketing can do. You can sell ice to an Eskimo. In my sons defence, he didn't buy the yeti, it was a gift from the inlaws.

Would have to be on an extended camping trip to need more than an Extreme.

Have a Kysek I got for free at a DU banquet, and a small Yeti. Have found both to be exceptionally heavy for their size and only provide minimal improvement in cold storage. Kysek's "solution" is that they've put wheels on one end of their larger models so they can be wheeled around..........still ridiculously heavy, just can wheel around, but those wheels won't put in back of your truck or down into your boat. Had to laugh at the rep they had at Sportsman's Show last year......."but it's got wheels!" he said.

Had ours drying upside-down on the side of our boat in the garage, when I knocked it off accidentally. It broke both hinges. Went online and bought a new set from them. Now it's back in business. Best cooler I've had for keeping things cold a long time.
All in a day's work.
