Counted today and there are 49 honey supers in process of being filled. Still have about 10 in the shed ready to use if I need them and this stack.
These ones need frames and foundations.
Mo munny.
16845283436843089703524571694414.jpg

Them boxes when set up with frames and foundations are worth $65 each. (Empty) It's not a cheap hobby but it puts money back into your pockets.
Hard to believe it. I didn't at first but if you keep at it ppl want the honey and will pay.

thank you. The gifts you sent are special.
I'm not a special beekeeper I just have been blessed with location. This aint no lie...
Curtis Orchard is about 5 miles away.

When they quit selling honey in glass my sales went up and people insisted that mine is better.
I doubt that. It's equal maybe.

I did put wheels on.
If it's not balanced the machine wobbles and they say the wheels help it stabilize.
Will see about that.

I think by next weekend maybe I'll have some honey to extract. I'm going to have to to make room for even more honey.

Now the bad news. The long range forecast is for a "super El Nino" and a hot dry summer.
So getting all goofy over a little spring shower in alberta is not too bright.
Super El Nino?!?

Get yourself some bees and feed honey to your friends.
I'm lucky because they get this look and say it's the best they ever had. This happens so much that I'm used to hearing it.
Customer Loyalty?
People like OGblackcloud testify without even being asked. It's that good.

Could have a whole series on how to spend $500.00 on stuff to make $300.00 selling honey. Brilliant. Best honey ever, not like just any other honey.

Today I'm making a pizza or two using John Ehlers dough recipe. He's still alive I talked to him less than two weeks ago.

Not that bad.
16846189913725660651826621236680.jpg

Get the oven and stone 550 then put pizza in. Turn it down to 425 and bake for about 9 minutes.
Leave it on the stone another 3-5 minutes for a crunchy crust.

This company is the grandaddy of all beekeeping supply.
Their story is epic and the original Charles Dadant invented the package bee industry to replace his own bees.
1684675084468857298101158391503.jpg

At about the time of the Civil War it was trendy to keep bees in the widows walk on a Victorian mansion.
They'd put a fish bowl upside down over a hole in a hive and try to get honeycombs built inside the bowl.
The Dadant factor is in Alexander, IL on the Mississippi River.
You can imagine a time when steam boats loaded up with bees and equipment would stop there. It's literally right on the river.

Ever misidentify a bird?
Hell no we are duck hunters.
Well-versed in all bird species and can easily identify them on the wing...my ass.

I had books on birds and still misidentified the birds that are at my hives daily eating bees.
They're cat birds.
Meow?

This Japanese lady has a lot of bee content where she is dealing with the murder hornets.
The bees in Japan are Apis Cerrana. In American and Europe we keep Apis Meliferra.

Mexico has stingless bees

That's a big swarm I'll try and catch it later.
Want to watch?
Laugh and offer advice?
Screenshot_20230522_135700_Gallery.jpg

About the third or 4th hive I looked through today...uh oh they flew the coop so I started looking up. The mother hive has a newly emerged unmated queen so I started scratching open ripe queen cells and collected 3 more virgin queens.
One I let go into a hive that had a drone layer.
They'll fight and hopefully the drone layer dies.
The other two I built little mini hives for and I made three splits so something for sure will make a mated queen. Maybe they all will it's may...good time for queen rearing.
It's "not that bad".

I saw a video where a guy put a mesh trash can on a pole to catch swarms.
Scoop n score he calls it.
The bees actually will all go in once you scoop some in.
Clever as hell.
IMG_20230522_152826.jpg

Put an extension pole on and get some bees.

There's a rumor going around that we are all mods now if you start a thread. More lying assed duck hunter BS.

If you go there right now there are a pair of greenheads loafing on that little pit.
Take a Gamo and you won't need a retriever.
Watch out though. The pond across the street has a turkey buzzard sunning itself.

Today I invented a waterfowl dog training term.
My pup Millet will beat on a plastic bumper with his feet.
It's just playing. I asked a trainer what it's called and in the process of describing what the dog does I named it.
"Drumming" the bumper.
Cool.
Just talked about it with the previous owner of the retriever training forum. He decided that drumming is what it is called.

This little Japanese woman seems fearless.
She catches them murder hornets and does experiments on them. She discovered that they can't chew thru a plastic bottle or metal mesh.
Creepy but cool.

She is hell on the hornets

The truck won't start. It tries.
Get out and open the hood and take a little sniff.
Starter motor is fried.
The good part.
It happened right by the shed.
Starter is cheap at Napa.
