They talked me into it.
Hastily throwing muh gear into the truck.
Something will be forgotten.
If I can't get it I don't need it.
Cords splitters generator light battery charger....
Gas cans ...oh lordy.
So much crap just to maybe kill a duck.
Don't forget BEER.

South woods floods first.
The big boys play there. My Yankee pals are too pussified to deal with it. They say it's too stressful and too much anxiety. For them it is.

Expensive coffee right there.

The very best coffee you can get at mallard lake.

Around Effinghell and south of there you start seeing them signs.

After the hunt I looked for other holes.
I'd find a Beaver run that leads to a hole and run into a dam. They try damming it in at the end if season so I'm hitting last years damn dams.

We trained in a mowed field so he hunts by sight mainly.

Suppose you were as tight as me and craved sine crayfish.
It was $8/pound cooked up with the works but $3/pound live in a bag. So what else do I need?
I just want the spices and not corn, sausage, and whatever else.
I
Want
Mud
Bugs.

Years ago I saw decline in mallard numbers.
Was in denial a while.
Two seasons back I noticed the increase in wood ducks or at least they didn't decrease.
Maybe I started paying attention but I also started targeting them. Tasty birds.
Got wood duck decoys and damn...if you know what you're doing it's easy to guess where they'll try to land so put decoys there.
I'm hunting wood ducks this week.
If a teal or other puddle duck flies by I'll shoot it.

Recharging. Brought the big charger it's what I had that works.
That generator is actually nice.
You have to change the oil like every 10 or 20 hours or so.
The engine is tiny and only holds not even a pint of oil.

Arkansas rules .
I buy an annual small game license (non resident) $110
State waterfowl stamp $35
WMA 5-day permit $30.50 they kind of force you to round up to 31.
$176 and there's more.
For each additional 5 day wma permit it's $31.
I get 5 more and THEY PICK THE DAYS NOT ME.
SWEET EH?

I get ripped a day too.
The first split is nine days.
I get to come back after Christmas for ten and then the last ten days of season.
Goofy but that's the rules for oozers

The downside of this "sport".
There's always this guy who is trying to escout the who shot what where. Like I fucking know.
It sounded like...
Every shot you hear equals a dead duck. Right?

Yesterday we compared dogs.
Millets mother is kinda chunky.
His sister is smaller than millet but very nimble and uses her nose.
Millet is a bit taller than his sire.
Didn't expect that.

Today I'm taking a "guest".
A guest hunter can be two things.
Go with the flow or try and force things.
Guest has already decided on a certain style of hunt.
His way will make me miserable and my way will make him miserable.
One thing is for sure...it's gonna be miserable for someone.
I'm gonna sit in my heated blind.
He's gonna go lean on a tree and not move...like that is possible. I can't do it and need a blind to hide my constant fidgeting. I am hyper.
Which brings up rule #1.
"GO WITH THE FLOW OR YOU GOTTA GO".

Not one mallard duck was killed yesterday here.
It sucks but I've decided to hunt wood ducks. They taste better.
Sick but true.

Ten years ago was COMPLETELY different.
The last good year was the year that they burned all the blinds. Went from millions of ducks to just a few hundred thousand. The flyup last night was good anyway. Something about watching all them ducks get up to go feed recharges me. But...targeting strictly wood ducks?
That is NOT me.
If I don't kill a mallard by Wednesday I'm splitting because up at Clinton Lake they have some dumb mallards by then I bet. Hard to believe it but I'm posting from lower stake.

Three holes called lower, upper, and middle stake kill a lot of ducks every season.
We've had 12-man limits. It's fun if it's right
Water came up about 6 inches overnight. It's coming in

I didn't watch the fkyyup but I'd say yeah.
There are always teal here. Pintails usually too sometimes more. A wave cones thru in December.

To kill not mallards and wood ducks hunt Simmons field.
It's so dry you can drive a truck into that field now.
Wait til Xmas
