We're getting the stuff together for Cajun Roasted Quail.
I need to cull 10 males from the outside cage to make room to put more females into that cage.
I've got 94 eggs incubating and will need to cull more males eventually and pretty much continuously.
Its just how it works.
Eventually my chicken chicks in the tractor get old enough to mingle in the coop. Then I'll use that space like a bachelor pad for meat bird quail. A plan is forming.
Will see if it works out. :scooter:

The nine are in the box waiting for execution.
First a good safety meeting is required.

Was undercooked. That recipe is great but cook it longer than it says.

He cares so much that he started an account to tell us how he don't care.

Looked up quail egg cutter and it looks so much like a cigar cutter that I tried mine on an egg.
It works. You cut the tip off the egg and dump it.
Handy as hell. Cracking a quail egg is impossible without a tool. The shell membrane is tough.

What the hell?
Why didn't I think of this?
My dogs both seem to know what I'm saying and sort of just do it. Milo one morning....
I noticed about a 4 year old hunter suiting up. Waders and all.
So I said, " hey milo why don't you go say hi to that little boy?". And I'll be damn...he went over and did it.
Everyone who heard it was surprised.

I think I want a steak today.
NY strip will do. Save them fat ribeyes for something special.
Under them chickens is solid mallard. 8-)

This will do it.

Our other freezer has a box with 7 chickens.
Have not eaten one yet but my quail friend ate one of theirs and says it's very good. They're so damn big ....like a turkey almost.

When I bought the chicks they were a day old or two.
It only takes 8 weeks and they get to be 10 pounds.
If I had known I'd kill them at 6 weeks.
Normal size. I wondered where the hell these gigantic breasted chickens came from and how.
They're cross breeds. Cornish cross.
Strange birds. Lazy as hell they just sit, eat. drink, and poop. Not very active at all.

We grow Queen Sophia variety of marigolds every year.
Seeds got high as a giraffes ass so I'm using my own seeds.

Millet could eat a few of those steaks. He looks like he’s hungry.

Been shamed on lots of things and one was "your dog is fat". I feed him about 4 cups of puppy chow and a can of fish. Tuna or salmon.
Next they said that'd make my dog go blind.
So I researched. There are things in cold water fish that are good for your eyes AND the Labrador retriever originally lived on fishing boats and ate fish.
It's ridiculous to suggest eating fish makes you or a a dog go blind. Cats see just fine.
Maybe one day you can meet Millet. He's very muscular.
Milo was never like that. Millet can jump into my boat on the trailer. Impressive. I just hope he never hurts himself.

More on the fish. I worked a summer in Akiak, Alaska.
Helped the mayor feed his husky sled dogs. Each got half a red salmon. (Thats fish) He caught them in nets in the river.
He was a native.
Fish is good for dogs
