Took a picture of the blind.
Putting a few sticks and branches on to break up the outline helps a lot.

I beach it for stability.

They year of the drought. Nowhere to hide so it got set up right in the open. To my surprise ducks decoyed the best that season where it was impossible to hide.
Counterintuitive.
You'd think they'd flair on a box.

Put a heron decoy next to your blind and it could pass for a big log. Looks good.

35 years ago I had mallards almost land8ng in that rig without all the burlap.
It has old school camo gore-tex fabric to keep wind out and most of the rain.
It's not a Holiday Inn but close.
I've slept in it a lot in the 90s

This is odd.
Duck seasons change?
Oh hell yes.
In 1976 it was Nov 1- 30 AND THATS IT.
For decades the last day of my season was December 23, 24, or maybe the 25th. Usually the 23rd.
Due to climate change the season now ends the 27th.

Gets better all the time.

I was wondering why the hell I had a type c cord that's the same on both ends. It's the key to uploading. Don't lose it.
I will lose it

Lost this ladder stand.
Shit happens

So you order another one.
It's possible that my gw pals have my stand.
My local friends went to look and found atv tracks in the area it got lost. It was between middle and upper stake holes.
I hunt middle stake a lot and they all know it.
I may end up with two dog ladder stands.
Millet has lots of experience on it now.

Aw fuck..
They got aholt of muh cookies.
Now I'm getting emails from every outdoor supply house trying to sell me a dog vest, kennel, stands, bowls, etcetera. Go away!
Thanks a lot gun dog supply....you bastards told everyone I have a dog.
Damn you all to hell.
A dog house heater?
Got me thinking. I can't keep my dog outside.
Neighbors would complain about noise they already have.
My "Congo neighbors"..They're quiet.
One day the skinny minny with Harry Potter glasses tried whining at me about my dog barking. She's kinda cute but a passive agressive female no matter how you cut it.
Told her I'd try and keep dog quiet.

Do you guys keep your retrievers outside?
If I lived in Arkansas I would..

Rather than pee all over a thread/log I'll put this here.
I too hunted upland game.
Was allowed to just wander around shooting stuff in AN ENTIRE TOWNSHIP near Seymour, IL.
I had three shopping bags of pheasant tail feathers I was saving. Hundreds of tail feathers. Some pretty long.
Imagine for a minute being able to just walk out the front door. Point that way...and decide we will go that way for 5 mies then turn back. Permission? My buddy's mom was the township secretary we had permission on every farm.
Wow.
Those were the good old days..

They were the good old days, Mike...
Moe and I would love to have that opportunity...
Hold on to those memories, Good times...
When I was a kid, my uncle gave me an old bird dog named Gertie (English pointer)... I could quail hunt from the house, usually finding a couple coves of quail, within walking distance of the house... I drive through that area from time to time and it's all houses now...

I do not make them sleep outside...they have a doggie door and can go out whenever they want to...
I start as a puppy and I discourage barking with a passion... I don't like barking dogs and I'm sure my neighbors don't like barking dogs either... So we nipped that in the bud as puppies (as Rick would say)...

There was a game farm thar had quail.escape.
Rare but we'd shoot one every once in a while.
In the mid 70s my dad took me way south to hunt quail on a retired colonel's property.
We had Brittany spaniels. Thanks for the comment.

Was just talking to a guy like last week who was about thr same age. We agreed that we haven't even seen many pheasants at all for a decade or more.
I tried hunting pheasants last year. It's rough here.
All my old spots get pounded hard. Finding a rabbit is way tougher too. Coyotes have moved in.

I make a couple trips to South Dakota pheasant hunting every year, seems like there's more hunters every year... Or at least more avid hunters, people have more money and resources nowadays to hunt public, you can find anywhere and anything with your smartphone...

I've considered it but...the but part.
I've plain worn out 3 labradors hunting upland and waterfowl both. It's tough to do.
Once I decided to focus on waterfowl.only my dog lived longer. Strange but true in my case.
File that under "beliefs". What actually killed my first two labs was that dog food scare. It stung me hard.
Poof just like that start over.
I'd probably jump at a chance to hunt in a group like we did back in the 70s. We used to use blockers but I was too hyper so they had me be like a dog at first.
My brother wanted nothing to do at all with walking thru brush. No sidewalk no Brian.

 It appears like I have maybe 5 more years and this falls off. I can stick my finger thru the bumpers in a few places.
Most people would just buy another truck.
Saving up for a yuge down payment.
This will have to do for st least one more duck season.
I'm sort of salty.

Oh yeah.
Those are my free tires that Walmart forgot to finalize the charge on. We ordered them. They got them to the store.
Much chaos ensued. They lost our keys then broke the spare key and couldn't do the tire work due to lignut recall. Quite a cluster fuck but we got free bfg all terrain t/a tires free.

I'm on my fourth black lab, hunted upland and waterfowl with all of them... I don't think hunting had any bearing on there age when they died.. I think my labs truly enjoy hunting upland more than waterfowl hunting... Upland hunting it's all on them, meaning they find the game... They get out of the truck fired up and ready to hit the grass or cattails..Waterfowl hunting is kind of boring, just sit there watching and waiting... Don't get me wrong they do enjoy waterfowl hunting, but it ain't upland... But who knows???

Im.too damn old to walk 5 miles to maybe shoot a bird and then there's that permission thing.
Around here you can knock on 1000 doors to get one spot. Too many liberals.
I gave up upland after "the season I bought snow shoes to hunt upland". Was kinda cool but it was obvious that it was going to suck from then on.
I hunted in pretty much the best area and the pheasants just were gone. My dad and his pals gave me enormous grief over hunting wild birds. They used clubs and released birds. Never could afford that.

This hunt was hell. Breaking all that ice to get a hole open sucked so much and we were so dumb about how we did it. Next time if there is a next time I'll take command.
We spent a lot of time breaking ice before we figured out we had to break more so it'd have somewhere to go.
Wind had to develop.
I've never worked so hard for 12 ducks.
He worked even harder retrieving them.

Golly.. apologize but the first thing I saw today was imagery of an attack on a natural gas pipeline.
The results anyway. So who do you accuse and more importantly how many "pipeline blew up" threads are on the refuge by now?

I like it enough to show it again.
