In my youth I'd get all worked up over these.
Now? Not so much.

A medical helicopter just flew over me going as fast as it could go.
I pray for the victims they're rescuing.
It's foggy. They're flying by radar.

There are weather junkies on this site.
I'm watching this storm.
It's going to trigger movement imo.
"Trough in the jetstream" is a phrase that turns you on if you're a waterfowl hunter in the Mississippi flyway. 8-)

I drove thru the damage from December 2021. The closer I got to Jonesboro the worse it got. There was pieces of farm buildings all over the place. It literally picked up diesel pumps and moved them..

Went thru the catalog. Nothing affordable.
The slippers are $90 because tiny little humans (little people) assemble them in Maine.

My bow stop made it to Urbana so I'll get it today or tomorrow. The starter ain't shipped yet.
Yikes. At least my motor pull starts easily.
I think tomorrow looks good for duck hunting but...what the hell would I know?

Soldering new wire onto burnt wire is a pain in the ass but I got er done. It took 30 minutes per connection because the stubs were not in finger friendly places of course.
All I need is a starter. The circuit tests out ok now.
Push button and the wire to starter gets power now only no starter yet.

I will kill him like with a rock or something...

The topic of hunter hatred has to come up eventually.

I'm peaking.
It's that time where other guys are all ears listening for clues on the where, when ,and how.
My phone gets a workout from them guys.
Every day around noon they start in.
They want accurate timely information and are willing to exchange complete bs for it.
Listen to them and they'll have you chasing your tail then they'll call you dumb for paying attention to them.
You start hating every time the smart phone notifies you.
Get any?
Where?
What time?
Did you hear a lot of shooting?
Where?
What time? ....sigh.
A guy pestered me a week over mallards.
Says he kill hundreds per year. Then why is he pumping me for info it should be the other way around .
Nobody was killing mallards and he thought he'd just stumble into getting told where they were getting killed.
You have to actually get in your boat and look.

Screening the most effed up hunting video ever made (by me). Was just fine until I shouldered gun then went to hell. Camera phone fell over and got disoriented so there is sideways segments and upside down too.
Dumb as hell.
It ain't easy. Shit happens.

On opening day they'd just begun to actually have some water in holes.
There are deer hunters that use the wma so they wait until last minute to flood it.
I have friends that asked "how does it not get overgrown with trees?".
It does and doesn't.
All them weeds and thick undergrowth prevent lots or trees from taking over.
It's pretty messed up on day one. Boat pushing.
By second split there will be mostly water covering all them weeds.
It was filling at around 6 inches per day.
Screenshot_20221129_064024_Gallery.jpg

On the last few days of season they open the drains and the water drops fast.

The road was nice and smooth like concrete on day one.
It only took us two days to tear it up.
Washboarded pretty bad on every turn.
The bolt that held this on broke.
That road is hell on trailers and trucks.

Here's how I set up all 4 days.
I've used that area enough to know what the wood ducks do. They use the hole to get down below canopy and shoot off thru the woods using the huge boat lane.
That's where the pontoon boat goes ...they have that lane big.
I was right in the place I thought that they'd go and it paid off.
20221129_132646.jpg

In general if a hole has a boat lane in and out of it plan on ducks using the lanes.
That hole I used has a real nice cypress brake on the west side of it. East side too..it's pretty nice and very popular.
The next one down the lane is the most popular hole on the wma. Nobody used it. Too shallow. A beaver dam was preventing it from flooding.

Tonight the wind is gonna flip.
First southerly then wsw then west then northerly after a cold front around midnight.
Either tomorrow or the next day I feel like I'll see some new birds and action finally.
Boat's in shed staying dry.
Been having light troubles every time it gets wet.
It's raining on the warm side of a system that's moving thru.

Rain storms moved through here last night, it’s hot and muggy now. Temperature should drop throughout the day according to the meteorologist. We’ll see.

It's 30 and windy. Couldn't force myself out the door it's probably a flight day for all I know.
My starter is in Urbana now.
Tomorrow it arrives.

This getting old shit sucks but I prefer it over the alternative.
Ahhhh.

This Saturday Theircommitted10 will be here. We're trading calls for honey again he really digs my hobby and I love his so we trade stuff.
I've got a lot of nice calls that's for sure.
Never thought I'd be call rich the way I am.
He gave me a keyhole olt that he modified.
Now he's made me a cutdown double-reed. I know what to do with it!
Kenny McNeal's bunch uses a call called white lightning that's louder than anything I've used. You wear ear plugs when they call at Kenny's place.
Loud works.

https://www.rainmancalls.com/products/white-lightning
It's delrin. $75.
White lightning has unusual guts.
I think it's called Louisiana style?
You can slide the guts all around so don't.
It's very hard to tune once you've moved the guts around.
Kenny and Mike call mallards from way the hell up there with them calls.

Eagles were brought up in another thread.
Where I camp if it's a bluebird day the eagles show up and then the eagle watchers and the eagle-watcher watchers. This small lake in the middle of nowhere suddenly becomes crowded with very slowly creeping cars that are trying to not scare them off.
Happens about 3 days per week. It's sunny there almost every day for at least some time.
According to the city of Blytheville they have 300+ sunny days a year there. I bring clouds always. ;)

Have any of you tried using a retractable clothesline and a set of spreaders to make a spread that moves?
I've got three spreaders and plenty of decoys.
Think it's worth messing with?
412YdreYGGL._AC_SY580_.jpg

If you rig the thing right the spreaders spin when they change directions. You use a fishing reel to pull it in then the retractor pulls it back out.

And more:
Anyone tried the "motion spreaders "?
I just found them.

Last year my Fatmax took a crap.
I bought something else and wish I'd been able to find one like it.
Was at DD and the guys made a big deal over it.
This is the one to have they say.
I dunno but I want another one.
$30 and change on Amazon.

I bought a DeWalt light a couple of years ago, that uses the same 18v battery my drill, circular saw, etc... use, and love it.
Was a little pricier ($79) for it, but it has been the most practical floodlight i've used, the battery has plenty of life, and easily rechargeable if needed.

Had one. Someone else liked it more than me I guess.
The Fatmax floats.
Waterproof allegedly.
Not ice proof. Now I remember...I broke my fatmax cuz it was iced up. Leave it in the truck cab not the boat.

In Arkansas one morning the only light I had that worked was my headlight. I managed to actually find my way to the right place. Killed ducks too.
My switch panel sort of sucks bad. Gets wet then freezes. Pisses me off.
Boat starter is in town being sorted. I'll get it tomorrow.
Bolt it on and go. I'll pull start it in the morning when I go hunt. Bolt it on later. I better kill me some mallards soon.

Was supposed to do this yesterday. Wife's birthday I totally blew it she hinted around and everything.
Pointed to the meat.
So I got the Papa Dels pizza and gave her a rain check.

Hey have you ever been arrested on your wife's birthday?
She will never forget that. ;)
