Your happy place

Cords not required.
Mine is at the end of a road called 7-mile.
Have posted video of the ducks getting up off the refuge.
I've met ppl from as far away as Florida and Minnesota there.
I can't wait to get back to them ducks.

Video'd too much of this. Found the first one I found I'm sure there are better.
The evening before opening day it epic.
Quite a show.
Compared to that this is meh.

The entire sky is full of ducks you feel it moving.
My camera only picks up a small portion of the greatness of this daily event.

Do not I repeat do not call me at 45 minutes before sunset I'll be pissed. It interferes with me getting to my happy place at happy time. :scooter:

If we are taking while they are in season, yeah, that's way more than I usually see.

After season, not unusual to see tons of ducks. One day, we had ducks flying over head heading out to feed for hours. There were several hours in a row where I doubt there was any time you couldn't look around and see 100 ducks minimum in the air. Another time, the next field over had acres of ducks. Wall to wall for acres. When you are counting ducks by the acre. That's a lot of ducks

But the farmer's almanac says cold and snow so, if that is the case and it gets here early, I like my odds of seeing big numbers before the season ends. If so, that will be my happy place

A hundred?
The day I shot that video there were ONLY half a million ducks at the refuge. There were 5 million mallards there in 2013.

I go out there every evening. Others go to other spots and we compare trying to figure where to set up in the morning.
East side or west. People in Missouri watch the same ducks

A minimum of 100 ducks in the air flying out for HOURS! A non-stop flow of ducks heading out for around 5 hours or so. 100 being the smallest amount you could see at any one instance for about 3 of those hours. Far more ducks than you showed in your video over the course of that 5 hours. I'm sure there were more ducks there, but what was in your short video, I see more than that some years. Typically after duck season has closed.

They get up just after sunset and fly to feed.
There's just a short amount of time that a camera works. Maybe 25 minutes and it's darkness. They all get up n go.
Big bursts of hundreds of teal go by. ( off camera usually")

In the morning they're sneaky.
You might not see them.
They fly around an stuff.
Ten years ago compared to now is sad.

Big Lake and Dave Donaldson WMAs are at the confluence of two flyways you can't compare northern Illinois to it but you can try.
It's not the same. People use the word "jagoff" up there.

We're talking past each other. I'm not trying to compare that area to northern Illinois. That would be silly.

Deltaman said it was beautiful and he rarely sees as many ducks in a season as in your video.

I responded to him and said that during the season I rarely see as many ducks as in your short clip, but after the season I often see more ducks than in your clip and gave a couple examples when goose hunting where I saw more ducks than in your short clip.

Not more ducks than are at such a prime location. Just more than in your short clip.

Peak numbers in the several counties in the area that I hunt I am sure is a small fraction of typical duck numbers in the Big Lake and Dave Donaldson WMAs. I have no doubt. But you didn't video but a fraction of those ducks and on occasion I do see more ducks in a season than you saw in that short video clip. Last year was not even close to one of those occasions. Fingers crossed that this year will be one of those occasions and that I see them before the season is over.

Thought of this thread and clicked this pic while searching for a new-to-us blind on a piece overrun with red rice. Not a happy sight for the farmer, I'm sure, but I was afield doing something "ducky" again, and trashy fields tend to be good fields...

My telescope has super high power but ...the more you magnify a picture of the sky....the less sky you get to see.
You want up close video of flying ducks?
Pay me.

I actually run the camera at a magnification of 1 or 1/2 usually.
To video a dog in the field...use 1/2.

PorkChop just go there and bring your equipment.
You want to shoot pics of birds?
They're there right now.. more show up and we party.
I lost all my mallard pics from January or I'd post some.

I get to experience such numbers while in the spread. No need to pay money for a video.

This is turning to a photography thread.
The key detail here that critics will miss is "that video was filmed after sunet".
How well does your camera work in the dark?

Are you saying that you are not happy that somebody is taking one of your threads and turning it into something it was not meant to be? How ironic ha ha and my video cameras work exceptionally well in the dark!

The waterfowl community is tighter than I'd imagined.
This is not the first time I've had this man's property in my possession "I think".
The name and address on that band is in my address book.
Thanks man. I'll put in on Logan. He has a pack full of cool things ppl have donated. It's more likely that Elliot will use it all. I can see that he's the one. Emmett will carry the stuff he's going to be very large. Won't be long.
Resized_20220816_084155.jpeg

Elliot finally allowed his hair to be cut but only a little.
He's still a hippy.
They're all gingers. They grow their hair then donate it to cancer patients because red hair is hard to get.

Everything duck is my happy place.
Training a pup...everything about the whole game. Travel, exploration, and adventure. I have some wild ones.
Quack. :duck:

Personal power line

Postby Ricky Spanish » Wed Aug 17, 2022 5:38 am

This topic reveals much about the one who posted it.
I won't hesitate to shoot doves off power lines but my father cringed when he heard about me doing it.
"Not sporting" were his words
I'm the kind of guy that'd put up power lines then bait with pea gravel and get caught.
That is all.
Screenshot_20220817-053447_Gmail.jpg

Perhaps I'll camp in yankeegray's driveway.
His house backs up to woods full of doves and they love his driveway gravel.
I'd limit quick there.
