Dog Food

Postby PorkChop » Mon Sep 26, 2022 2:28 pm

We are currently feeding our dogs Purina one true instinct. Looking at switching to something different. I have heard good things about Victor dog food I believe it’s called. Are any of you feeding your dogs this and if so what formulas are you using? Dogs hunt and run a lot. Need something that will keep them energized and keep the fat on them during our cold temps. I am anything but a dog food expert so feel free to talk to me like I am a kindergarten kid!

My last two have done very well on Victor. Current one is on their Hi Pro 30/20, but the prior one had firmer stools on their somewhat lower octane Professional formula.

According to " the internet peanut gallery" I'm gonna make my dog go blind by feeding him ____ ".
There are some really dumb guys "like me" posing as experts. You've been warned.

Ask a vet not a bunch of internet goofballs.
Ironically I'm buying dog food right now.
He's hungry again.

If you think that vets are not biased on the food they suggest then you are more wacky than I thought! I most likely wouldn’t ask this question on the Fuge but here it seems to be a close net of guys.

I fed victor up until Legh was 5 or 6 when she suddenly had a round of the uncontrollable shits. Read at the time they’d recently changed their formula. Switched to purina one and didn’t have any more problems.

The topic seems to be "who can we trust?".
The answer is nobody.
My dog Buddy died of kidney failure from tainted dog food. One day he just laid in front of my gun case and tried to run away from death while laying down.
Was terrible.
Who can we trust?
Nobody.

We had no issue with the minor formula change, but Marsh has been turning up his nose at the bag we just opened, after burning through another from the same source. Assumed he was just beat from two weeks of working flotant after an inactive summer, but there could be something wrong with this batch - or he's sick.

Purina One and I alternate between the the different combinations offered of dry dog food. Never had an issue.
