What is The Mentality

Admittedly I’ve never really been a basketball player and really could care less for the game but since I have several kids that play I have to attend the games. What is the mentality of calling a time out when there’s this much time left in the game and there is this much of a lead. I realize it says it is the first period but in these tournaments they just play two 18 minute rounds. So they don’t usually mess with the periods on the score board.

As a sidenote I love the name of the school!

Uh...I tried to play basketball in 8th grade.
We made up teams from each home room.
From what I recall of that miserable time ...
A basketball court is big. Run up n down one 14 times hard. I'd say the coach is just letting them breath.
Other than that I don't know.
My team in 8th grade sucked pretty bad.
Our games were 10 minutes and seemed like forever
