Just got my first few cherry tomatoes, but most of my plants are looking pretty good. Just a few weeks before I start getting the first wave of ripe tomatoes.

i have some friends that are starting to get leaf blight on their tomato leaves both hybrid and heirloom theyre saying due to weather, i use daconil spray from planting time on and have no problems ,does anyone else use it.

Mine too and I use no anti- fungus spray.
I just pull all the plants, harvest every tomato, and till. I bag up all the plant material and the city takes it away.

Probably my method is causing the leaf fungus or whatever. It's pretty much over.
I'm not too worried as long as I get something in jars by the end of August.
Time is short and then wham...time to go kill stuff.

Here they force errr...regulate you into buying and using them giant paper bags. You are supposed to fill them with leaves, give them to the city, they compost it, and SELL it back to you for your garden.
Why didn't I think of the racket?

I pick em as soon as they turn even a little orange.
If not bugs or squirrels ruin it.
It's about to get to be canning time. ( and fruit fly time too)

With the big boys I weigh them to figure out how many jars to prep. Can do just a couple pints at a time. Try to do big batches tho.
Pint is a pound pretty much.
My wife keeps me around because of stuff like the maters.

For soup or chili these work best.
You can't rely on store maters being ripe.

This stuff is our usual thing y'all might think about doing it too. Fresh picked frozen sweet corn is a treat in winter.

Had a great tomato crop this summer, ours are all done and we just pulled them up this week. Felt like they lasted longer into the summer heat than usual

$5/dozen.
We paid happily for it.
Their truck was nearly empty.
My wife was sick last year.
She's happy as heck having corn to freeze.
It is $1.89 for a can of summer crisp corn here.
We got 31 bags that are equal.to a can from 5.5 dozen ears.

A can is about 2 ears worth.

its pretty hard to beat put up sweet corn in december my farmer friend plants 3 different varieties peaches and cream ,illini super sweet,and bodacious, about 2 weeks apart so were busy canning for a few weeks ,lot of work but you cant buy that taste in a can!

Have 15 pints of the big boys done.
The Roma...I may do a batch this weekend.

We have compared Roma tomatoes from the store.
They're bigger but not sweeter.
Something about C-U makes super good tasting tomatoes.
That black loamy soil I guess.

I do small batches as they ripen.
This looks like maybe 6 or 7 pints.
I accidentally fucked up and grew a lot of cherry tomatoes so I'm just tossing them in.
Little bite size nuggets but full of seeds.
Funny but we don't even notice the seeds.

It smells good in the entire house..
I add about a teaspoon of sea salt.
Its counterintuitive but it brings the sweet out.

They foam up. I simmer it like 45 minutes and check again. It de-foams then I put it in jars.

have been doing this for around 15 years.
We heat up the jars and lids in the oven at 225.
Dump the maters in. Put lids on and that's it.
It works for maters.
High acid content.
They say only 18 months shelf life but we've used 2-year old jars b4.
Two years is important. Suppose your crop failed one year. We tend to try and grow two years worth.

I can admit that if 16-year-old me ran into myself today he'd say some mean things about the economic foolishness of doing this.

It's not a bumper crop but we enjoy the heck out of the entire process of growing storing and eating our own food we grew. It's how God intended.
It's biblical.

Was up early contacting a shipper that emailed me saying I needed to make an appointment for delivery.

An hour later they called me, transfered me...hold on please...hi we don't know but we'll have our guy call you back. They called me to tell me that they'll call back? Right.

Another hour. It's now 930 am and they originally said I needed to make appointment between 11:30 and 3:30.
Starting to get nervous.

At 11:30 they finally told me it's impossible to deliver today what was I thinking? (Face slap)
I'm all set up to de-crate a mower and it's not coming until tomorrow.
Without my knowledge the company set an appointment up for the morning online then told me tomorrow afternoon. At some point I lost it. I'm being unreasonable. Just take your fucking like a tranny.
Where's muh gun I need to straighten something out.
