I need to get the wife to bring home 6 more horses, temporarily, to get the state to come look, see them, and say "OK, we'll pay for your manure shed". Then get rid of the extra horses.

Olly, I know AB started a thread around here somewhere, but I can't find it. Feel free to lump this one in there, if you know where it is.

Got 200 hills of potatoes but in tonight. Up from 40 last year.

Other than the onions and garlic, that's all I got in right now. Beans, tomatoes, and peppers are still 2 weeks out.

what's the total sq. ft? do you store anything in a cellar, can everything or use it all during the year?

No cellars here, the water table is too high. I've turned the closet under the stairs into a big pantry. Most things I can, but this year I'm going to try drying some potatoes. Supposedly, you can fit 15 pounds of potatoes in a gallon ziploc bag, so I figure if I dehydrate enough, I can have 75 pounds of potatoes in a 5 gallon bucket. That's the plan, anyway. Usually I just leave the potatoes in the ground until we need them, though.

I may have gotten a little carried away. But I had some new varieties I wanted to try, but didn't want to "sacrifice" the regular ones I know work well. I planted 20 hills of purple potatoes, and 20 hills of pink potatoes. That's the flesh inside, not the skin. Layniebug is ecstatic she gets to eat purple french fries.

Have green tomatoes everywhere. Beans are 10" tall. Squash, okra and cucumbers are well up. Pretty happy for my first go round.

I feel my garden is now worthwhile, Assa has deemed it "badass". Thanks man killing myself trying to make the best of planning how much I want of each. Still have another row to plant and might end up taking out some plants to make room for others.

If it was me (and it's not), I'd plant cucumbers all along that back fence. Put a stake in the ground about a foot out and run strings up to two nails at the top (like a V). Do this all along the fence, plant at the stakes, and as the vines grow, use twist ties, or strips of an old t-shirt to train them onto the strings. Cucumbers grow upwards very well. And you could grow a ton. Maybe split it up, and plant some pole beans on half the same way , and cucmbers the other half.

I probably have a foot and a half between the fence and my onions. Excellent suggestion and would free up a whole row for me. Planted a row of blue lake beans. From what I know they are a bush and don't climb like pole beans?
