Solar Dehydrator

Anybody ever make one? I'm going to build one out by the garden this year, so I can dehydrate some of my produce rather than can it. Toward the end of last season, I was running out of room in my pantry, and my freezer was full. I'm going to try not to freeze anything this year, and will go the dehydrated route. I've found some pretty good ideas, but wondered if anyone had ever done this before, to help me steer clear of "bad" ideas.

Are you talking a out the ones built with aluminum cans to collect heat? I know a guy who built two solar.heaters for his house and it cut his heating bill in half, so the concept works

I wasn't going to use the cans, just a box-type collector. I don't really understand why the cans would work better than just a black box, but they seem to be popular.

I think the cans offer more surface area to tranfer the heat to the air,but I don't know for sure. I know a guy who uses the can method to heat his house, the electric heat doesn't kick in as long as the sun is shining.Interesting project AT
