New shotgun stock

Postby JGUN » Fri Mar 22, 2013 8:42 pm

The stock on the .410 I picked up for the boys was a little long and if I cut the other stock down the butt would have been really small. I decided to build one from a chunk of walnut I had in the garage. Still have some minor fitting and sanding to do but i think it's going pretty good. The old stock didn't have a recoil pad so I'm putting a limbsaver on it too.

that's the before pic, as in before the roll of duct tape comes out instead of the minor fitting, put $5 on it ;)

Yeah I got it pretty close last night but ran out of time. Ha, the foam was from the bed of the truck that the dogs lay on. Probably going to build some woodduck boxes up at the shop this afternoon.

Flat as a board out there right now and divers all over the place. Sitting at the state theatre right now with the family.

Do you have plans for wood duck boxes? I've got quite a bit of rough cut laying around.

Somewhere I have plans but I've built enough that I don't always follow it exact. These I made from scraps that were laying around in the barn loft. I have some plans I'll see if I can find them. I think they called for a 1" x 10" x 10' board per box. The front I make 24" give or take with mesh on the front for the adult and a longer piece of mesh on the inside for the ducklings. The sides should be about 23" to leave a gap at the top for air circulation. The back is about 30" to leave room to anchor on the top and bottom. The top should overhang the front 2-3". One side should open for cleanout. I usually put about 3-5" of sawdust in the bottom. The opening is roughly 3" tall x 4" wide. I like to add some shingles or rolled roofing to the top to make them last a little longer.
I'll try and take some pics as I build more this afternoon and we can put a sticky on the DIY section.
