Miter saw

Trying to decide between the makita and dewalt 10" saw. Just the single bevel no slide. Any pro or con's between the two?

Don't like their drills at all but see lots of miters around.

I've got the DeWalt 12", and I don't suck dicks. The Hitachi we had is a lot better, though, even if it is funny looking. The key to any miter saw is to get/make a good stand. And a good stand will make a marginal saw much better, and the opposite is also true.

FIL has a nailer that has worked fine although it has a huge foot. Don't even think about picking it up without a nail set.

If its anything other than a flat surface the big rubber foot prevents it from driving all the way.

I have seen plenty of 15 year old Dewalt chop saws around with no problems. I hate just about everything Dewalt makes, but their 12" chop has been great for me so far. Mines 8 years old and has been flawless. I just like how they aren't bulky. The Bosch and Hitachi have big dumb guards that get in the way.

One thing is for sure, never waste your money on a 10" miter saw, go 12"

I have a Rigid finish nailer that makes me pull my hair out. Haven't used it in 2 years. The punch slides over the nail and binds up about every tenth nail. Switched to the Paslode for the few times I ever need a finish nailer.

Then I might have to go crazy and switch it to bump fire. Can't have OsHA knocking on my door

Brads and 2P-10. I have a 1/4" crown stapler, but it's only used for laying ultraply down. Never used a pinner, but I am pretty positive they don't make very long pins, and they won't go through hardwood.

I don't mind spending the money on a good saw. I thought Dewalts were good. I am far from being a contractor. I want to buy a good one that will last. If I do, it should last me a long time.

Dewalts are good, regardless of what some people think. There are a lot of brands that some people don't like. No different than trucks or guns. There are quite a few good saws for a decent price out there but I chose the Dewalt because I knew people that were using the same saws for over 10 years(at the time) and also because it didn't have any bulky guards or useless safety features. I like just having to pull the switch and have the blade move.

I wouldn't worry about the slide and dual bevel if you aren't going to be using it a lot, but if you've got the money, then go for it. I'm not a fan of slides for doing compound miters, but they are nice for cutting 2x12's.
