I don't really care about the bevel. I do want the slide, just for cutting wider boards like you said. I always use the miter saw that my dad has, and it always seems like it lacks just a little from cutting all the way through what I want. That being said its only a 10" though.

Hate 10" saws. Ive never owned one, but I hate using other peoples. I would own a 14" if they werent so effin' expensive.

That's the one we have at the shop and I have zero complaints, but we don't use it as often as a framer would either.

All the 12" sliding saws I have looked at also have the dual bevel. Do they have one that does not have the dual bevel? I haven't looked around a lot, just mainly at Lowes here lately. Since that's about the only place that carries them around here besides Sears.

Oh, and get the saw if its what you want and are comfortable with. As jehler and assa said though, there are a lot of good brands out there.

Any other brands you guys would recommend me checking out, besides the Rigid like Jehler mentioned?

Oh, thanks for posting this FS. Your helping me out here also.

I believe its not just the brand but where you buy it. Both dewalt and Milwaukee make cheapened versions of thier tools to sell at the big box stores. I would go to a real tool store and see what they have. You might see a saw that looks exactly like the one you saw at home depo but the model no. will be different because the internals are beefier.

Typically, that's the difference when you buy a12" over 10". 10" is more of a home owners build and the 12" is more contractor/commercial.

For the past two years I have exclusively used Hitachi drill/driver/impact Li-ion 18v kits. They are amazing and have lifetime replacement. I'm still waiting for one to break down, but I've recieved two batteries for free so far. They will have my business until they fuck up...like Rigid, Milwaukee, and Craftsman has. I still like the other three, just didn't honor their product like Hitachi does.

Smaller the diameter blade in a chop box the more accurate the cut, don't buy a 12 unless you need to cut very large things, we have a 10 and a 12 and the 12 hasn't been off the shelf in 8 years or better.

Eric you really ought to try a 10", if your doing lots of crown you should have this guy

I do measurements within 64ths on my 12. I use a thick kerf blade and it is extremely accurate. You can't cut 5" crown on a 10" either, so I will never own one. Well, i do own a 10" slide miter, but it's only used for cutting soffit.

You could cut 12" crown on a slinging 10", you just have to lay it down and use your calculator

Yeah, that's like a lot of work, haha. I'd have to charge by the hour.

Have that exact saw at work. It can make some damn good cuts when it's dialed in. It is however a finicky bitch and no fun to dial back in when its off. Ours has never moved off the base it's on either.

Guessing you guys have never used a Bosch? You don't like the dewalt better than a hitchi or makita do ya?

I don't like Makita anything, except their old table saws. And Hitachi makes a good roofing nailer, and the compound saw we had was good, also. But is it better than DeWalt? Meh. The only thing Milwaukee makes worth a shit is the Sawzall and Hole Hawg. Bosch, I like their hammer drills, jigsaw, and rotary hammers.

I don't like Milwaukee anything anymore, we have a 15 amp makita sawzalll that blows away the old
Milwaukee's. I like makita a cordless stuff to but we don't own any of it anymore

Yeah, the Sawzalls are all about the amps. Those 7 amp Milwaukees are close to useless.

Milwaukee makes a 15 amp now and they are VERY proud of it, the makita was almost a 100 less and I like it better

I use Bosch recip saws, pretty nice. Almost bought the cordless drill kit, but like the Hitachis more. Bosch jobsite table saw is nice too, but I'd take the dewalt anyday.

No kidding. I always took pride in having nice tools like snap on, mac, milwaukee, and other brands with great warranty but I guess I just have a box full of coal.
