While on the subject of 9.9/15 johnyrudes, does anyone know if its true that putting a 15 hp carb on a 9.9= 15 HP? Thats what I did with mine, but I wouldn't call it quite a 15.

Depends on the year. Some yes, some it takes the carb and the exhaust. Others might have some reed tuning as well. Google "Leroys ramblings" and learn more than you could have ever thought imaginable about those motors.

Thanks goldfish. I don't plan on going any further on a conversion, if it moves my boat around while I fish for stripers, its good enough. I was just wondering. That site looks great.

YES! It does.Mine's a mid-80's.
For a lotta years this is true.

Get a repair manual that lists all the parts for each motor and you'll notice the ONLY difference is the carb.

I have a pile of old evinrudes for parts and two 15 hp carbs.
I'll trade you a carb for a starter...same engine.

This is not true for all year models. Some yes, but others require different size exaughst ports and other mods.

How many times have you put a 15 hp carb on a 9.9? I been doing it for 25 years. So far I been lucky every time.
I purposely look for mid-80's because thats when they started using electronic ignitions. For that vintage it works. Not all. Just the ones worth having.

My 15 starts first pull when cold but once its warmed up takes 4-5.
Always starts. Used to have a starter until the wind blew me into a bridge and lost that boat and motor.
I want a starter cuz I am old and my fucking paws hurt sometimes.

My fifteen is one that actually was made as one. Usually convert them.
Starts easy when it is cold. Little harder after its warmed up. 4-5 pulls usually.
52 year old duckhunters want electric start motors. Nuff said junior?

Hey gf, here is a pointer. If you are having boat trouble...pull a plug then reconnect the wire. Piss on the plug while a buddy pulls the rope. Works every time. :duck:

Doesn't do shit unless you're touching the motor too. Try it if you wanna live dangerously

Tiller or console? If it's a tiller, sometimes shaking it back and forth will get whatever crap is in the carb away from the jet so it'll run better.
