I did buy the right stuff. I bought 4 150w HPS ballast kits and 4 150w medium base HPS bulbs and 4 exterior medium base sockets.

I use a halogen bulb mounted in a big ss mixing bowl, hooked up to a car battery to spear eels. Works fine for me. You gotta simplify Nuff.

I light a pine knot on fire and use a scrap of birch bark to reflect the light when I go spearing.

I had 4 500w halogens before and didn't like em. That's why I'm switching to HPS. Looking forward to a quieter generator too.

we use a 2000 watt Honda, real quiet and will run 1600 watts of light without tripping, we run all our bulbs underwater though

I bought a 150w HPS kit. They shipped the wrong ignitor with the kit.

I think that same setup in the sagnasty bay would light up about 3 foot around the boat. That's why I want to switch to HPS. With 800w of power I should get 60,000 lumens. But right now I get more light off a bic flicker.
