Pallet floor. Make cleanable cover boards later. The table is part of the plan. Can simply pick it up and move. The whole coop is 48" x 80".

The roof is about 40" above pallets. Two roosts, one at 24 and one at 12" is what I came up with ATs help.
So far this project is 100% recycled materials. Have not spent any money...yet.

The pen will go behind the coop. There is a nice shady locust tree.

I plan on using some old paneling for poop boards.
Slide em in through the ends. Thats what the hinged opening is for.

May want to make the "poop board" have an end and sides, and just leave the side closest to the hinged door open-ended. Then you can pull it out better, and dump it easier.

Still have to add a roof and a roost pole. So far I spent sixty bucks on plywood and hardware.

Lookin' good AB

I wish we could have them up here. My wife actually wants them, and would help with the chicken chores...

I have a very hard time tossing anything that can be used as building materials.
My attic is full of roofing materials. Half-rolls of felt and roll roofing, shingles, nails, plasticaps, etc.
There is a huge sink in my backyard. Way too nice to toss. Thinking about making an outdoor sink base and connecting a garden hose to wash veggies outside.

I must be meant to have chickens. Keep finding everything for free.
Was pondering how to make my roost board round on top. Started digging in my material hoard. Found 14' of 3/4" quarter-round. Roost is 80". Cut, nail. Whalla.
All I need is chicken wire and a couple of the fence posts for the gate. Found Americana pullets in white heath, illinois for $8.
Only 25 minute ride.

I only recommended the Americanas because they lay big eggs. They call them Easter egg chickens, sometimes, because the eggs are often pastel blue or green. More money if you decide to sell some eggs.

The rules I am "supposed" to follow.
1. No roosters
2. No more than six.
3. Can not slaughter them on site.
4. No selling eggs.
They will come up with more rules.
Doing it just for fun and I want the fertilizer.
I found the closest pullets. If I drive further and pay more I can buy them barred rocks.
Still fiddling with coop. Silkies?
Those are cool looking birds.

The city council hasnt decided what the rules are quite yet. Quoted a comparison of other cities that allow chickens in backyards.
Urbana is fairly relaxed on chickens and compared to Champaign they are uber-liberal.
I dont have a "permit" yet so am just kinda shopping around to see whats what.
Its pretty well guaranteed I will be breakin the chicken rules. ;)

Been reading up on caring for chicks. The blog I read said to build a circular pen out of cardboard in your garage or barn.
Went into great detail on how to tell if its right judging by the chicks behavior. This chicken stuff is interesting. (To me)
I guess chickens are so stupid that they get caught in corners.

Do yourself a favor and stop reading now. Put them in a plastic tote, and have a heat lamp over it. I've never seen a chicken not get out of a corner, although if you have a lot, and it gets hot, they will suffocate the ones on the bottom. So maybe that's what they were talking about. But really, that's only commercial operations.

Right. No way am I putting baby chicks in my garage. Its a good thing to know. Quite sure there are many self appointed chicken experts out there. The guy on youtube bashing on small chicken coops is a good example of that. Hed shit if he knew 30+ chickens roost on a 12' tree branch. rofl

I saw chickens in the meat section that were ten fucking dollars. The butcher sits on the cheaper ones. Gotta ask him to wrap one. Saves close to 3 bucks that way.

Egg production facility is at 110%. Full house in the laying boxes, and 1 in a holding pattern on the roost.

We've been getting 2 eggs per day for a few weeks and are starting to get more. There was 4 yesterday.
