Haven't tried it yet. I should probably do it tonight so I don't have to do it drunk tomorow.

I've got my eyes open, but no way I'm ordering one. They're certainly proud of their lids.

Yeah, they are pricey. Yard sales are your best bet. Good luck.

Just took my slab out of the fridge, I will trim it and dry rub it next.

Assateague, you do know about taking the membrane off of the ribs, right?

Jarbo,

You dont have to pay taxes either.

But it makes things easyier.

Left over from my days of competitive BBQ. You would NEVER win a rib contest with a membrane on.

Doesn't make those judges right, they would make that decision before eating. Kinda like you with field trials.

I have noticed that it takes more skill to smoke ribs with out the membrane; and they are certainly easyier to take apart when you eat them.

Its the equivilent of a swim-bye. Not necessary, but will get you a higher stud fee.

TOUCHE MUTHA FUCKA!!!

You be the judge. Be at my house at 6:00 PM and tell me what you think of doing it my way. Bring an apple or pumpkin pie, I have beer.

I guarantee your ribs are good, never said they need the membrane. You can have awesome ribs with the membrane still on though, even without a smoker.

NOPE!

Jarbo and I had a long discussion on dog training on the fish bank this week.
We see things a little different, but respect each others opinions.

We have different applications for our dogs, different expectations, and different goals. What he was saying is he KNOWS I think my dog is a great hunting dog and dont have any desire to have her judged.

He has been in the dog game a lot longer than me, and is a perfectionist by nature. He and his dog are ready to go to a higher level so to speak. I am perfectly happy doing what I am doing with my dog.

Its all good.

Yep, you are right. Its just an old habit I guess.
If you hang around pro dog trainers, you think certain things are better to do with your dogs (like ff)
If you hand around BBQ teams, there is no question you take the membrane off.
Creatures of habit, me thinks.

I forgot about your own family bbq. Too bad, but I will get ya into a slab in the near future.

I talked to T Man, you need to sell him on the Melvern location, he is cool with the date.

Absolutely, we feel the same bout trials, my thoughts are towards upland, TKs are retrieving. Hunt tests as we talked about are a different story. Was my only example of a judgment being made before hand I could think of.

I can't imagine what it would take to break up the Krew...I'm sure it would make for a great story if it were to ever happen (With time of course). Or maybe the worst story ever...

FF, we all get along pretty good. No jealousy, arguing, etc.

We are all in it for the fun and try to help each other.

I think of myself as gods test to Jarbo. He has been pretty patient with my learing curve. I over look yet respect his drive for perfection.

GKR and I have a lot of laughs. His hunting style and mine are probably the closest.

My cousin is part of the Krew, he is more like Jarbo then the rest of us. They get on together great. Upland hunters always do.

When we can get the Doc away from studing peters or chasing tail, he is always interesting to hunt with.

T Man is funny, sincere, and a great fella.

I am lucky to have a great krew to hunt with.

Not bragging, but the Krew has some pretty good wing shooters in it...I guess if you spend the time and money we spend doing it, you should get to be pretty good.

Should is the key word. There are plenty of guys out there that spend the time and money and can't shoot for shit. I see it on the clays course all of the time. You probably have every right to brag...a lot of us do...$10 says most of the boys over in Lawrence can't shot like you guys!

In that case, I better not join. I am notorious for missing shots. Although my lack of give a damn more than makes up for it.

So you're saying I must circumcise my ribs before smoking? And on the smoker, I'm getting ready to cut out the pieces for my firebox, then the neighbor and I are going to weld it together later. I'm also disappointed that I don't have a tap big enough to accommodate the 3/4 fittings- the biggest one I have is 3/4, and I suspect I need a 13/16 or maybe 7/8 tap. Oh well. That's what Dremels are for.

I guess its a matter of prefernce Jim. If you are going to do it the way I do it, then yes. As Jarbo pointed out, its not necessary. But an experienced trapper like you should have no problems taking that membrane off in 2 minutes.

I took some pictures, just for you, of the entire rib process. The are sitting in the kitchen now, soaking up the rub.

Headed out to fire the smoker up.

Will be back on here tonight with a new thread. Enjoy fellas. AT, if you have any questions text or call.
