The lawnmower thread.

Postby Tomkat » Sun Jun 09, 2013 7:34 pm

Today I installed new blades on my GT235 54c john deere mower. Not a terrible ordeal but time consuming.

TK, I think I have a brand new set of mulching blades for that mower. My FIL gave them to me, said they were for a 48" John Deere deck, but they don't fit my 48" John Deere deck. Measure your old blades and let me know what size they are, and I'll send them to you if they match. Mine have two bolts around a center stud, but the blades he gave me just have the center hole.

Hey thanks Jim. My deck is 54 " (bigger is better)

The blades do have one hole in the center.

Measure the old ones, anyway. My FIL got them from a buddy of his who's rich, apparently, and bought the wrong ones, never bothered to return them (shakes head). I can't imagine that there are two different blade types for a 48" deck, but these don't have the cardboard anymore, so I don't know what they're for, exactly. Brand new, shiny John Deere green, never even been on a mower. Seriously- measure your damn blades.

Blades are up for whoever wants them. Brand new mulching blades. They're for a John Deere, but I honestly don't know which one. My deck is a 48" "Edge", and they won't fit that.

Reminds me that I need to sharpen my blades...It is coming up on 3 seasons without sharpening the blades.

I wore out my set about two years ago. They are now unrecognizable as mower blades. They look more like metal tongue depressors, but still beat the grass into submission.

I do need new blades.

Never thought about it.

But for now, they're still up for a mower that they fit on. TK's deck isn't the right one, either. Anybody with a John Deere mower, feel free to measure your blades and let me know.

Ah just put an edge on them with a die grinder. Good to go.

The metal at the end is literally shredded, and about 3/4" wide. There's literally nothing left to grind

Mower at the shop is a 42" deck, so probably won't fit here.

Assa, take those blades and cut them down to fit. You can balance them back out. Haha.

I thought about drilling holes in them. I may still try that. I figure my bearings are likely already shot, anyway. They're the same length, I just need to bolt holes in each one.

No dice there. Wrong size. Apparently these blades I have are some sort of mutant, which fits no John Deere mower deck known to mankind.

Or they redesigned something to have MORE parts.
They did that on the idler pulley I replaced.
They do that fucking constantly to make the "ASSEMBLY" cost more.
Nothing runs you to the store and back...like owning a fucking deere.
