No, I suspect it's a cutworm. If you dig around the base, you may be able to find some of the grubs, but it's getting sort of late. If you find any grayish grubs, those are cutworms. For some reason, it's almost impossible to ever find one of the bastards actually on the plant. At least it is for me.

I am picking all the tomatoes. The plants are kinda sick. Made tons of maters so am happy.

Whike I got your attention, help with this.
Remember the home made ice eater?
Am kinda stuck on the legs. Wood butcher out of his realm.
What is the material that pipefitters use to hang pipes from. It has a c shape and lots of holes for all threaded rods or bolts. I forget what its called and think they would make great legs.
Turns out sticking the motor pointing up...is best. Makes ripples and moves lots of water.

The pipe has three carraige bolts. I will cut them and then use wingnuts to attach the legs. Will have to add bolts at bottom.
That way I can adjust the height in the water by changing what set of holes.
You know what I mean?

They're pipe hangers. But anymore, they're made out of rolls of plastic. The metal ones for black pipe are threaded rod now, not the perforated kind you're thinking of. Maybe get a piece of copper pipe and pound it flat with a hammer, then stack them and drill your holes. Leave the end round, and solder a cap on the end. Just an idea. Or you maybe can buy pieces of perforated angle iron (like the kind those garage shelves are made out of) at Home Depot for cheaper, not sure which would be the least money.

It's called Unistrut. Can't remember what it costs and all the particulars. We built a couple frames out of it to hang equipment from in a hospital. You wouldn't need nearly as heavy of Unistrut that we used tho.

Was out picking maters at pre dusk... caught one of the rascals trying to escape. Small slug. So I grabbed some plates and a beer. They love it and drink themselves to death.

Remember this? Finally working on it some more. Jamming conduit into mud...too easy. It might work but the torque from the motor...probably will twist and fall down.
Need to design a base to hold legs. Thinking about attaching something flat (plane) like plywood...to bottom of the big pvc pipe. Drill 3/4" holes for legs to poke thru. Should stabilize it better. Still a work in progress.

And if mud's the issue, may just want to glue caps on the ends, unless that still isn't big enough.

Marketed under several names. Its a wake maker or an ice eater.
Trolling motor inside a pipe. Moves water. Makes ripples and splashing noises. Clears ice .
Its metal conduit for legs AT. Your idea. Remember? Maybe not.

That's right, I forgot about that discussion regarding the legs. When I looked at the pic, all I could think was "deer feeder", but if so, it was the world's smallest deer feeder. Thought maybe you were going for another world record.

It does look like a deer feeder.

I have another ice/motion idea.
Transfer pump with muffler extension. Put pump in water, submerge muffler, run black pvc pipe into spread for motion and ripples.
