No, that's in the underground bunker that's in the gated community inside the walled compound.

These fuckers. Have read of a few things you can use but many say they kill many good bugs, doing more harm than good.

They showed up here 2 years ago, and I've heard that there's nothing for them, yet. I found you can control them a bit if you flip the leaves upside down and pull the chunk of leaf where the eggs are. They're easy to find, but it does take some time. I have a coffee can with about 3" of used motor oil in it- just "pinch" the chunk of leaf where the eggs are off the plant and drop it in the can. The plants may look funny with a bunch of holes in them, but better then they do after the borers get after them. The good thing here (well, as good as it gets) is that they usually show up late, after you've been getting squash for a good while, so we just sort of write them off.

Cool, goes right along with everything I've been reading. Will keep a sharper eye out for sure. They caught me off gaurd last year by not knowing what they were until the plant was long gone.

By the time you see one adult, it's probably too late. You gotta start turning over leaves and looking as soon as the blossoms are off the first squash. Not sure about down there, but they start really going crazy up here when it gets hottest and driest, around the first week of August. Mind you, they've only been here 2 years or so, so not like I have a ton of experience with them

To save you some money, I've tried permethrin, pyrethrin, maliathion, sevin, and some "bio-somethingorother", and none of them worked, not even one little bit.

Pretty sure I learned in school that they can be killed by spraying a soap solution on the leaves. Might wana check in to that.

I've seen that soap bullshit for potato bugs, too. It doesn't work worth a damn. At least not on potato bugs.

I am going to try nicotine this year a little more. Just sort of messed around with it in the past, but need to come up with something. Drop a couple cigarettes in a gallon of water, and let them sit for a week or so, until the water turns brown. Then spray that on. Going to have a "test group" among my tomato and squash plants, and see how it works.

The chemicalized version is the basis of a lot of modern pesticides, isn't it?

Hard to tell from the pic but all but my peppers are up here. Berries are getting after it, should be picking some before long.

Na, just different strokes. If they grow it is fine.

Here's the garden in the back so far. The hyacinths are done. The daffodils got taken by the last snow and cold spell. The tulips I planted last fall are about to bloom. The hostas are poking thru. The apple and peach trees have buds as well as both grape vines. The azaleas I planted last year survived too. I will turn over the portion along the left line of bricks for veggies in May.

I always do. This year I'm planting six different types of peppers, all from seeds.

No, I mean outside, in the garden. Flight said his peppers were just coming up, but I guess it's warm enough down there. If I planted peppers from seed outside, I'd be lucky to have blossoms by the time they froze.
